Need TV and media units in De Beauvoir Town?
TV and media units for homes in De Beauvoir Town
Media equipment warms up as it runs, so sealing equipment in a cupboard isn’t a good idea. Ventilation is planned into the design, with open backs, gaps or vented doors where they’re needed. Equipment makers often say how much space their boxes need around them. If you are living with games, controllers and remotes everywhere and a screen at the wrong height, that’s what TV and media units are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Most homes around De Beauvoir Town are purpose-built flats, so the route in is part of the plan. TV and media units are made in sections sized to go up the stairs, into the lift and through the front door, and assembled and fitted in place. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Questions from De Beauvoir Town
Do you cover homes near Dalston Junction station?
Yes, homes across Hackney and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Will a conservation area stop me having TV and media units fitted in De Beauvoir Town?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
Can you plan for a future TV?
We can size the opening for the screen you might buy next. Tell us the size you have in mind so the space and cable routes suit it.
Can I send photos ahead of the visit?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
Bespoke TV and media units or ready-made?
Bought units often have a single cable gap, but cables normally still show somewhere. A built-in unit has routes planned through it. Large ready-made pieces can be hard to get up the stairs or into the lift, while fitted furniture arrives in sections sized for the route. It’s then put together in the room.
We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, drop us a line using the contact form.

What affects the cost of TV and media units
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- The overall size of the piece
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Spray painting or hand painting
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
Helping us understand the room
Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Where you live, with the postcode
- How you want to use the space
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing for you to look over. To book one, send us a few details through our contact form.
What it is made from
Moisture-resistant MDF
There’s no grain to show through the paint for a smooth finish. The moisture-resistant grade is our choice.
Spray-painted finish
Spray painting is done in the workshop, giving a smooth, even surface that suits a modern TV wall.
Living-room carpentry in De Beauvoir Town: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the area around De Beauvoir Town were built before 1919 (about 39%) and since 2000 (about 25%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of De Beauvoir Town include St Paul's Church (Grade II*), under half a mile north-west, and Church of St Mark (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles north-east. For a listed home, internal works that affect its character may need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. About 25% of homes in the neighbourhood around De Beauvoir Town were built since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Newer homes normally have plasterboard stud walls and open-plan rooms, often with no chimney breast, so TV and media units are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor.
If you live in a flat close to Dalston Junction station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. Close to Shoreditch Park? TV and media units can be planned to frame a window with a view rather than block it. If you live in a period home close to Church of St Peter, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at.
De Beauvoir Town is in the London Borough of Hackney, about 1 mile south of Shoreditch. De Beauvoir Town is part of the area we cover. Our Hackney coverage includes De Beauvoir Town.

Where other trades come in
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:
- Repairing plaster or redecorating
- Installing aerials, satellite dishes or broadband
- Removing a chimney breast or any structural work
If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

From workshop to your room
At the end, we tidy up and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. In a block of flats, the stairs, landings, lift and doors matter as much as the room: the furniture is made in sections that fit through all of them. Mansion block lifts can be small, and some blocks have no lift at all.
- You contact us with a short note about the room and the unit you have in mind.
- We visit to measure the wall and talk through the design.
- Your quote follows, with the design, materials and finish set out, ready for you to check.
- We make the cupboards, shelves and panels in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We install the unit, leaving the cable routes and vents clear. We check the doors and shelves with you before we leave.
Before fitting day
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Starting with a design visit
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space. To share them, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.
