How fitting day works

In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Many blocks have entry systems, concierge desks or rules on booking the lift, so it’s worth checking with the managing agent beforehand. Communal areas and floors are protected on the way in.

  1. You contact us about a bespoke kitchen.
  2. We visit to measure and talk through the layout and the finish, spray-painted or hand-painted.
  3. A written quote follows, with the finish agreed.
  4. We make the kitchen in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF, which suits kitchens and takes paint well, and birch plywood.
  5. The kitchen is fitted and scribed to the walls, with any hand painting done in the room.
  6. Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician; new paintwork needs gentle use while it cures.

Bespoke kitchens in De Beauvoir Town

Islands work well in kitchens with room to walk around them. We check there’s comfortable space on every side, and in a narrow kitchen an island can make the room harder to use. Where space is tight, a peninsula or a longer run may suit better. If your home has extra cupboard space and spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets, that is what kitchens are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

With most households around De Beauvoir Town in purpose-built flats, mansion blocks and modern blocks are both possible. Mansion block kitchens often have tall ceilings and walls that aren’t straight, while newer flats tend to have plasterboard walls and service boxing. Fixings are chosen for whichever you have.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the kitchen we’ve designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished.

Why people ask for bespoke kitchens in De Beauvoir Town

Older kitchens often lack storage. Larders, tall cupboards and deep drawers can hold much more than a row of standard wall units.

Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:

  • A painted kitchen in a colour you choose
  • An island where space allows
  • Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
  • A painted dresser for the kitchen

For a flat near Dalston Junction station, it is useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

What to check before you book

  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?

Bespoke kitchens for homes in De Beauvoir Town

Homes built before 1919 make up about 39% of the housing in the area around De Beauvoir Town, with about 25% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. 15 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of De Beauvoir Town. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings. About 25% of homes in the neighbourhood around De Beauvoir Town were built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Kitchens in homes built since 2000 are often open-plan, with stud walls, so wall cabinets are fixed into the studs or with fixings made for the board.

Sutton House, about 1.3 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Peter, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

Could you do it yourself?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s easy to buy.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.

What it costs

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • The overall size of the piece

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Before the design visit

Ahead of the design visit, we will normally ask about:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres

Rough measurements are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form and let us know about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

Questions from De Beauvoir Town

I live near Dalston Junction station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Hackney and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

How do you fit bespoke kitchens in a flat in De Beauvoir Town?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.

Can I have a kitchen island?

Where space allows, yes. There has to be comfortable space on every side, and we measure for it at the measuring visit. In a narrow kitchen, a longer run or a peninsula may suit better.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it, and it is agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a quote in writing follows.

Looking after your furniture

The finish lasts best with a little care. Here are our suggestions:

  • Make sure an island will not crowd the room
  • Talk to your other trades in good time
  • Check stairs, hallways and lifts for access
  • Make sure walls are dry before cabinets go in

Wipe up spills and splashes promptly, especially around the sink and dishwasher. Moisture-resistant MDF copes well, but standing water is best avoided.

Have any damp sorted before the kitchen goes in. Cabinets against a damp wall can trap moisture, especially on a colder external wall.
