About our TV and media units in Donnybrook Quarter
Speakers need space to be heard properly. A soundbar can sit on a shelf below the screen. Speakers work best in the open rather than behind closed doors. People normally come to us about empty alcoves beside the TV and equipment running hot in a closed cupboard, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Many homes around Donnybrook Quarter were built since 2000, and newer homes seldom have fitted storage in the living room. TV and media units can be planned around where the sockets and aerial points already are, with routes for cables designed in. Plasterboard on studs takes fitted furniture well, as long as the fixings suit it.
We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

What affects the price in Donnybrook Quarter
Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- The internal fittings
- The width and height of the space
- How many doors and drawers there are
We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
What to send when you get in touch
You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. It is enough to send:
- Your postcode and the borough
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To book a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
Questions from Donnybrook Quarter
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Hackney Wick station?
Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Donnybrook Quarter?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit.
How long are you in the house for fitting?
It depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The making happens in our workshop, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.
How do I get a quote?
Simply drop us a line using the contact form. Rough sizes and a few pictures help, and we’ll arrange a design visit, followed by a written quote.
Can you plan for a future TV?
We can size the opening for the screen you might buy next. Tell us the size you have in mind so the space and cable routes suit it.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need someone to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Living-room storage in Donnybrook Quarter
In the streets around Donnybrook Quarter, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 41%) and before 1919 (about 22%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for TV and media units, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List records 18 entries within half a mile of the centre of Donnybrook Quarter. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your home in Donnybrook Quarter is on or near a main road, tell us during the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
Sutton House, about 1.3 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place. If you live near Grove Hall Park, TV and media units can be planned to frame a window with a view rather than block it.

Could you do it yourself?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s quick to buy.
Practical tips
A few practical points help before and after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Count your equipment, including routers and consoles
- Find out how much space each box needs around it
- Plan open spaces for anything controlled by a remote
- Choose how the TV will sit before the design is finished
Paint is dry to the touch well before it has fully cured. At first, lift boxes and speakers into place rather than pushing them to avoid marks.
Keep ventilation gaps and open backs clear when you add equipment.
What happens on fitting day
In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer developments sometimes have their own parking and loading rules, so it helps to let us know at the measuring visit. The furniture comes in sections and is fixed in place. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.
- You contact us with details of the room, the TV and your equipment, and where the sockets are now.
- We visit to measure, note the sockets and agree where everything will go. Any new sockets are a job for your electrician.
- We send a written quote with the design, materials and finish, for you to look over.
- The unit is made in our workshop, with cable routes and vents built in, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit it in your home, scribed to the walls and ready for your equipment. A hand-painted finish is done on site, if you chose one.
How to prepare
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Tell us about parking near your home
- Make sure pets are kept safely away

The problems TV and media units solve
Others are tired of furniture that doesn’t fit. Standard TV stands rarely suit an tricky wall, and a bespoke unit is made for the space.
Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:
- Games, controllers and remotes everywhere
- Empty alcoves beside the TV
- Set-top boxes stacked on a stand
- A tangle of wires behind the TV
Near listed buildings like Lock Cottages, less than half a mile north-west of the centre of Donnybrook Quarter, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
