Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Donnybrook Quarter

We fit walk-in wardrobes in Donnybrook Quarter and across London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and talking through the design, followed by a quote. Everything is made in our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a built-in dressing table and hanging for coats, dresses and shirts.

Stud walls in newer homes can carry pipes and cables, so we check before fixing into them. Many homes around Donnybrook Quarter date from 2000 onwards, so this check is routine. Tall pieces are tied into the studs, not just the board.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the walk-in wardrobe we have designed for the room, what it is made from and how it’s finished, and it is what the workshop builds to.

Flats, leases and landlords

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check at the design visit.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot give advice on leases.

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes

The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Newer developments sometimes have their own parking and loading rules, so it helps to let us know during the design visit. The furniture comes in sections and is fixed in place. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. First, you let us know about the space. A line on how you’ll use the room helps.
  2. The design visit covers measuring and the layout inside, planned around the way you get dressed.
  3. You receive a written quote, setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The units are made in our workshop.
  5. The walk-in wardrobe is fitted in your home. Each unit is set level and scribed to the walls.

Pricing walk-in wardrobes in Donnybrook Quarter

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:

  • How big the furniture is
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • Doors and drawers, and how many

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

What we need to know

Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:

  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres

The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote. To book one, tell us about the room on our contact form.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Donnybrook Quarter

Will a conservation area stop me having walk-in wardrobes fitted in Donnybrook Quarter?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

I live in a flat in Donnybrook Quarter. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. Walk-in wardrobes are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.

Do you do the electrics?

No. We’re carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design.

Can you build a dressing area in my bedroom?

Yes. We design the units to make a dressing area within the bedroom, and we fit the furniture once any building work is done.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture, which helps avoid condensation and mould. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Donnybrook Quarter homes and walk-in wardrobes

In the neighbourhood around Donnybrook Quarter, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 41%) and before 1919 (about 22%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. 14 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of Donnybrook Quarter. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. About 66% of households in the area around Donnybrook Quarter live in purpose-built flats, according to Census 2021. For a flat, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Lock Cottages, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent. For a family home near Old Ford Primary - A Paradigm Academy, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. The wider area includes historic houses such as Sutton House, about 1.3 miles north-west. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.

Hanging rails

We plan rails for full-length garments and for double hanging, based on what you wear.

Shelves

Shoe shelves can be angled or flat, sized to what you own.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Open rail systems are simple and adaptable, and that has real appeal. A fitted walk-in wardrobe adds doors, drawers and shelves where you want them, painted to match the room. Rooms in newer homes are often compact, and standard depths can take too much floor, while fitted furniture can be made shallower where space is tight. It still uses the full height.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, and the quote follows.
