About our TV and media units in St George in the East

Cables are the part most people want to hide. We plan cable routes through the unit from the start, with holes, channels and access panels so leads can be added or changed later. We make the routes, and your electrician handles any wiring. Most enquiries start with set-top boxes stacked on a stand and bought furniture that doesn’t suit the room, and the answer is made at our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Many homes around St George in the East have been built since 2000, and newer homes tend to have open-plan living rooms with no chimney breast. That means TV and media units often create the structure of the room, framing a screen or running a full wall. Many internal walls in newer homes are plasterboard on timber or metal studs, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Your questions about TV and media units in St George in the East

My home in St George in the East is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. TV and media units are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Do you cover homes near Shadwell station?

Yes, homes across Tower Hamlets and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

What affects the price of TV and media units?

Each room is quoted on its own: the size, what goes inside, the finish and how square the room is all count. You’ll get a quote in writing once we’ve measured up.

Where should speakers go in a TV unit?

Speakers sound better in the open than shut in a cupboard. A soundbar can sit on a shelf below the screen with open bays for bigger speakers. Tell us the speaker sizes when we visit.

How long does it take to fit a TV unit?

It depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The making happens in our workshop.

How do I get started?

Simply get in touch through our contact form. It is useful to send rough measurements and a few photos, and we will arrange a design visit.

Bespoke TV and media units or ready-made?

An off-the-shelf TV stand is cheaper and quick to buy. A stand is also simple to swap when technology moves on. Bespoke units are made for one wall and the things you use. Large standalone pieces do not always fit the lift or the hallway, while fitted furniture comes in sections sized for the route. It’s then assembled and fixed in the room.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, and that is part of the price. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.

What happens on fitting day

On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made in our workshop come in next. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On the day, floors are covered first and the sections brought in. Each piece is levelled and fixed to suit plasterboard or block. Hand-painted finishes can be completed once the furniture is in.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room and your equipment, including the size of the screen.
  2. We come to measure, note the sockets and agree the layout.
  3. We send a quote in writing for the unit, ready for you to check.
  4. The unit is made in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home, with the cable routes ready to use. We check the doors and shelves with you before we leave.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to

Starting with a design visit

We quote once we have seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Caring for painted furniture

New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:

  • Decide where you will sit, so the screen height suits it
  • Think about which things need to be seen by a remote
  • Book your electrician first if sockets need to move
  • Choose how the TV will sit before the design is finished

Vents and equipment shelves gather dust, so clean them now and then. It keeps air moving.

Avoid piling devices on one shelf, as they trap each other’s heat. Each one needs space around it.

Could you do it yourself?

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
