TV and media units in North Greenwich
In many period living rooms, the chimney breast and its two alcoves shape the whole wall. The alcoves can take cupboards for equipment and shelves above leaving the TV in an alcove or on the breast. Any chimney vent is kept clear. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a screen at the wrong height and speakers muffled behind doors.
Many homes around North Greenwich were built since 2000, and across London a lot of homes from those years are flats in newer developments. In a compact new-build room, a shallower run of TV and media units can add storage without crowding the space. Boxed-in pipes and service risers are common, and they can be built around rather than hidden badly.
Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Questions we’re often asked
Will a conservation area stop me having TV and media units fitted in North Greenwich?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Is parking a problem for fitting in North Greenwich?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Can you make TV and media units for a home in North Greenwich?
Yes. We design and make TV and media units for homes in North Greenwich, and the process is the same everywhere we go.
Do you fit furniture for landlords?
Yes. Landlords and letting agents can arrange a design visit in the same way as anyone else. We will need access agreed with any tenants.
Does the unit work if the TV is on a bracket?
Where the TV is to be wall-mounted, we plan the unit around the bracket. The wall needs to be sound for the bracket so we check the wall during the design visit.
Where should speakers go in a TV unit?
We plan open spaces for speakers and soundbars. Closed doors muffle sound, so we leave them open.
What affects the cost of TV and media units
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- How big the furniture is
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
What to send when you contact us
A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Your postcode and the borough
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
To get a quote, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us a little about the room. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a written quote follows.

What else we make in North Greenwich
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
TV and media units for homes in North Greenwich
In the area around North Greenwich, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 52%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 24%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Within a mile of the centre of North Greenwich, 7 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in North Greenwich, as it does anywhere else in London. We plan parking and access with you at the design visit.
For a flat near Greenwich station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If your children go to Harbinger Primary School or a school nearby, a cupboard for board games and a shelf for reading books can go into the same design.

Why people ask for TV and media units in North Greenwich
In an open-plan space, the TV wall is on show from everywhere. A built-in unit gives that wall order.
Here’s what TV and media units can help with:
- Alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste
- Equipment with nowhere proper to go
- Speakers muffled behind doors
- A TV that looks out of place in the room
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Nicholas, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Choosing a carpenter
- Whether they measure the room themselves
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
Fitting day, step by step
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and lift the floor protection. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and answer any questions. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Newer homes often have stud walls, so on fitting day heavy pieces go into the studs or stand on the floor. Floors are covered while we work.
- You get in touch and tell us about the room and your equipment, including the size of the screen.
- At the design visit, we measure up and plan the screen space, cable routes and ventilation with you.
- We send a written quote for the unit.
- We make the cupboards, shelves and panels in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The unit is fitted in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls.
How to prepare
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Empty the space we will be working in
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
