Where other trades come in

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Removing a chimney breast or any structural work
  • Connecting the TV signal or internet
  • Any electrical work (your electrician handles that, and Part P covers some of it)

Not sure whether your space suits TV and media units? You can use our contact form and we’ll tell you. How it works.

What goes into it

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Cable routes
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Ventilated cabinets

About our TV and media units in Little Venice

Sockets often need to move for a built-in TV wall, behind the screen or inside a cupboard. That is work for your electrician. Ideally it is done before the unit goes in, and we can tell you where the unit will sit. If your home has bought furniture that doesn’t suit the room and leads that show from every angle, TV and media units made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.

Older houses tend to come with picture rails, tall skirtings and cornices, and they set the lines that TV and media units have to meet. Homes built before 1919 make up a large share of the housing around Little Venice, so mouldings are something we expect to talk about at the design visit. The top of the furniture can stop at the picture rail or carry on to the cornice, whichever suits the room.

Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

How we price TV and media units

What you pay depends on:

  • How big the furniture is
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • How square the room is
  • The internal fittings

There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing. To start, message us from the contact page.

What to send when you contact us

Ahead of the design visit, we’ll usually ask about:

  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

What happens on fitting day

With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Older London houses often have narrow hallways and tight turns on the stairs, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through.

  1. You send us a few details about the TV, the boxes and the speakers you use.
  2. At the design visit, we measure up and plan the screen space, cable routes and ventilation with you.
  3. Your quote follows, with the design, materials and finish set out, ready for you to check.
  4. Each section is built in our workshop to the measurements we took, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We install the unit, leaving the cable routes and vents clear.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

Starting with a design visit

It is useful to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space. To send them over, use our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Advice

Is bespoke worth it?

Most stands have a cable hole or two at the back, but cables typically still show somewhere. We plan the cable routes into the design, with access panels for changes later. Recesses in older houses come in every size except the standard ones, so off-the-shelf pieces either don’t fit or leave a gap either side. Made for the space, the furniture uses the full width and height.

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

TV and media units for homes in Little Venice

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Little Venice were built before 1919 (about 47%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 16%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for TV and media units, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. 12 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Little Venice. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings. More than a third of the homes in the streets around Little Venice (about 47%) were built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Older houses normally have a chimney breast and alcoves, which suit a TV in the middle and media storage either side.

The wider area includes historic houses like Winfield House, about 1 mile north-east. If your own home is a period one, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place. Close to Kensington Gardens? TV and media units can be arranged to keep the window and the light clear.

What prompts TV and media units in Little Venice

Families with consoles, games and controllers want them tidied away. Drawers and cupboards hold them out of sight, and open shelves hold what’s used every day.

TV and media units can help with:

  • Leads that show from every angle
  • Clutter around the TV
  • Equipment with nowhere proper to go
  • Empty alcoves beside the TV

For families living near Ark Paddington Green Primary Academy, low doors that small hands can open, with books and ornaments higher up, suit a busy family room.

Common questions about TV and media units

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Little Venice?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.

Do you cover homes near London Paddington station?

Yes, homes across Westminster and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

How long are you in the house for fitting?

How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We will explain what fitting day involves before we start.

Can you build a TV unit for a wall-mounted TV?

If the TV is wall-mounted, we design the unit around the bracket position. The bracket needs a sound wall.

Will my boxes get too hot inside the unit?

Equipment gives off heat, so it needs air around it. The unit is planned with open backs or gaps where boxes go, rather than sealing it in a cupboard. Keep the vents clear once it is in use.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
