Loft Storage in Little Venice

Loft storage in Little Venice: eaves cupboards, drawers and wardrobes in converted lofts. Each piece is designed at a visit to your home, made at our workshop and fitted by us.

  • A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
  • A new loft conversion that needs storage
  • Unused space in a dormer

Need loft storage in Little Venice?

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is quick to buy.

Loft storage for homes in Little Venice

Many loft rooms are bedrooms, and storage for clothes is the first need. A wardrobe under the slope, knee-wall drawers and dormer shelves make a complete set. Designed as one, they give the room calm, consistent lines. We design them around what you need to store in Little Venice. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised and a loft room with too many jobs.

With a large share of homes around Little Venice built before 1919, under-stairs cupboards in older terraces often house the meters or the fuse board. Meter readers and engineers need to get to them, so the design keeps them accessible. Sash and bay windows are common in houses of that age too, and good places for seating with storage below.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

Loft storage for homes in Little Venice

In the neighbourhood around Little Venice, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 47%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 16%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Little Venice include Catholic Apostolic Church and Church House (Grade I), less than half a mile north-east, and Church of St Mary Magdalene (Grade I), less than half a mile west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of inner London. In Little Venice, a van will typically need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know about parking near your home at the measuring visit.

If your home is one of the older houses near St Saviour's Church, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. For a flat near London Paddington station, it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Is it time for loft storage?

A loft room used as an office or guest room often needs storage too. Built-in storage under the slopes keeps the room flexible.

Requests we hear often include:

  • A dormer that is not being used
  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
  • Low eaves that nobody can use
  • A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room

Close to Kensington Gardens? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • A written quote that sets out the job

Questions from Little Venice

Can you fit loft storage to the uneven walls of an older house in Little Venice?

Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Little Venice?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Where is the furniture made?

We make it in our workshop, to the design and sizes agreed after the design visit. After that, we fit it in your home.

Can I send photos before the visit?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Do you carry out loft conversions?

No. Our work is storage in loft rooms that are already converted, or in boarded lofts. Loft conversions are building work, with Building Regulations to follow. Once your loft is converted, we can design the storage.

Will eaves storage block the ventilation?

Not when it’s planned well. At the design visit we check what’s there and leave the space it needs. We do not alter insulation or vents.

From workshop to your room

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it’s useful to have the room cleared beforehand. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out, and the sections are joined and scribed in the room.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the loft and the stairs up to it.
  2. At the design visit we plan the storage and measure the stairs, landings and loft doorway. Let us know about parking too, as a van often needs a permit or a paid bay.
  3. A quote in writing follows, covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
  5. The sections go up the stairs, are assembled under the eaves and set level. The finish is sprayed in the workshop or hand-painted in the loft.

Before fitting day

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

Why bespoke in Little Venice?

A ready-made cupboard pushed into the eaves can block airflow. We plan the storage around what’s behind the knee wall. That’s important for the health of the loft. Off-the-shelf furniture is made for flat walls and level floors, which older houses rarely have, so you end up with gaps, wobbles and units that do not meet the skirting. Fitted furniture is scribed to the wall instead.

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Practical tips

Looking after painted furniture is simple. These habits help most:

  • Choose a calm colour for the loft
  • Check the route up to the loft
  • Think about how you’ll reach into the eaves
  • Think about hanging space for a loft bedroom

Heavy items are best kept in the lower parts of the storage. That keeps the drawers running smoothly. We size the shelves for what you said you’d keep there.

Check now and then that handles and hinges are tight. Tightening early stops a small looseness getting worse. If something stops working smoothly, get in touch through our contact form and describe it.
