About our TV and media units in Loxford

Set-top boxes, consoles and amplifiers give off heat, so equipment can’t simply be shut in a closed cupboard. We plan ventilation into the unit. It is worth checking each maker’s guidance on clearances. If your home has clutter around the TV and boxes with no ventilation, TV and media units made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.

Homes in an area like Loxford can come from many different periods, and a wall might be brick, lath and plaster, blockwork or plasterboard. We check what the walls are made of at the measuring visit, then choose the fixings. With a chimney breast, TV and media units typically fill the alcoves; without one, they can run along a whole wall.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Bought media units are made in set widths, so gaps are common. Ours are scribed to the walls and can run up to the ceiling with shelves and cupboards around the screen. Walls and floors are seldom perfectly flat in any home, so standalone furniture can lean or leave gaps. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside during the design visit.

What you get with us

Read how bespoke compares with ready-made and what to look for in a quote.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t normally do that in an older room.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot give advice on leases.

How fitting works for TV and media units

Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. We measure the hall, stairs, doors and any lift not just the room, so TV and media units arrive in sections that fit through. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. You send us a note about the room and the unit you’d like.
  2. At the design visit we agree the layout and talk about colour and finish.
  3. You get a written quote covering the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. The unit is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF, which takes paint well, and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home; a hand-painted finish is applied once it’s in and is easy to touch up later.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Empty the space we’ll be working in

Your questions about TV and media units in Loxford

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Loxford?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Do you make TV and media units for homes in Loxford?

Yes. We cover all of Redbridge and the rest of London, and Loxford is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

What if I buy a larger TV?

The space can be sized for a larger TV so the unit suits your next set. Mention the largest screen you might buy when we visit.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Typically not. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

Living-room carpentry in Loxford: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Loxford were built before 1919 (about 39%) and since 2000 (about 24%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Near the centre of Loxford, Historic England’s list includes Barking Station Booking Hall (Grade II), about 0.6 miles south. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Redbridge is inside it. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Loxford. We go through parking and access during the design visit.

If your children go to Woodlands Primary School or a school nearby, shelving with deep cupboards below keeps books, games and school things in one place. The wider area includes historic houses such as Eastbury Manor House, about 1.2 miles south-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at.

Loxford is about 5 miles north-west of Woodford, part of the London Borough of Redbridge. We work across all London boroughs and the City of London, and Loxford is part of that. Loxford is one of 18 places on our list for Redbridge.

Do you need TV and media units in Loxford?

Upgrading to a bigger screen is a common trigger. The old stand looks too small, or the screen dominates the wall. A unit around it puts it in proportion.

We are often asked to help with:

  • Somewhere to keep games tidy
  • A tangle of wires behind the TV
  • Bought furniture that doesn’t suit the room
  • Equipment with nowhere proper to go

If you live near Loxford Park, shelving that stops short of the window keeps the view of the green.
