Living-room storage in Wallend
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Wallend were built before 1919 (about 34%) and since 2000 (about 34%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Within a mile of the centre of Wallend, 3 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings. About 33% of households in the streets around Wallend live in terraced houses, according to Census 2021. Many London terraces have a chimney breast and alcoves in the main rooms, and TV and media units are made to those widths.
For families living near Nelson Primary School, low doors that small hands can open, with books and ornaments higher up, suit a busy family room. If you live in a period home close to St John the Baptist's Church, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. Eastbury Manor House, about 1.5 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units.

TV and media units for homes in Wallend
The screen size comes first. We plan the space around the TV you have, or the one you expect to buy. Viewing height matters too: it should suit where you sit, not just the wall. People normally come to us about a tangle of wires behind the TV and a TV that looks out of place in the room, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Whether your home in Wallend is a period house, an interwar semi, a post-war flat or a newer build, TV and media units start with the room you actually have. Period rooms bring sloping floors and mouldings; newer rooms bring stud walls and service boxing. We measure for whichever you have, and the pieces are made to suit.
Our quotes are written in plain words. You’ll see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Flats, conversions and lettings
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.

What else we make in Wallend
Boards, parts and paint
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting lets you see the colour in the room’s own light. Joins and scribed edges are painted at the same time.
Birch plywood
Long shelves under a screen need to stay straight. Birch plywood helps.
Bespoke TV and media units or ready-made?
TVs keep getting bigger, and a stand that suits today’s set may look small with the next. We can plan the opening with a bigger screen in mind, so the unit lasts longer. Off-the-shelf furniture comes in set sizes, and real rooms rarely match them, so it leaves gaps at the ends and empty space above. Built-in pieces fill the space they’re made for.
The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Questions from Wallend
Is parking a problem for fitting in Wallend?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.
I live near Barking station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Newham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with a few details about the room.
Do you move sockets for a TV unit?
That’s a job for your electrician. Ideally it’s done before fitting and we design the cable routes around the sockets.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
Can the TV be wall-mounted with a unit around it?
We can plan for either a wall-mounted TV or one standing on the unit. If the TV is wall-mounted, panels and shelves are arranged around the bracket and cables or we size the top for a TV that stands on it.
How long are you in the house for fitting?
It depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. The making happens in our workshop.
What we do not do
We design, make and fit the furniture. That means:
- Connecting and setting up your equipment
- Aerial, satellite or broadband installation
- Any electrical work (your electrician handles that, and Part P covers some of it)
If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

- Ventilated cabinets
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Hand-painted finish
- Spray-painted finish
- Birch plywood
How fitting day works
At the end, we tidy up. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Before fitting day, we check the route in as well as the room, so TV and media units arrive in sections that fit through. We cover floors and doorways on the way in.
- It starts with a short note from you about the TV wall.
- We visit to plan the unit and check the way in. Let us know about parking too, since a van may need a visitor permit or a paid bay.
- A quote in writing follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- The unit is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
- We bring the sections in, join them on the wall and scribe them to fit.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
