Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Mayfair

Bedrooms in Mayfair: local notes

About 51% of the homes in the streets around Mayfair went up before 1919, and about 20% since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Part of Mayfair is in the Mayfair Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. About 51% of homes in the neighbourhood around Mayfair were built before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. A small spare room in an older house can make a good dressing room, with storage scribed to walls that wander.

If your home is one of the older houses near Grosvenor Chapel, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. Living in a block of flats near Bond Street station? Then walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Mayfair is about 1 mile north-west of City of Westminster, in the City of Westminster. Wherever you are in Mayfair, it works the same way: we visit and measure, send a written quote, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. Across Westminster, we cover Mayfair and the places around it.

Every address in W1K, W1F and W1U is within our area for walk-in wardrobes, from the main roads to the quieter streets. Whether you live on a street like Park Lane, Bruton Lane and Market Mews or on one nearby, we can arrange a design visit for walk-in wardrobes. Mayfair sits close to the A4201 and A4202, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. If you’re just outside Mayfair, we also cover Burlington Estate (1 mile east), City of Westminster (1 mile north-west), Marylebone (1 mile north), St James's (1 mile east) and Chinatown (1 mile east). Elsewhere in Westminster, we also cover Westbourne (2 miles west), Little Venice (2 miles north-west), Westbourne Green (2 miles west), Pimlico (2 miles south), Maida Vale (2 miles north-west) and St John's Wood (2 miles north-west).

Around Mayfair

Our area takes in the homes around St George's Church of England Primary School, Royal College of Nursing Library & Museum and The St Marylebone CofE School. There is a railway station in Mayfair itself: Bond Street station. A little further out are Kingly Court (under half a mile east) and London Eye Hospital (0.5 miles north). Green spaces nearby include St. James's Park Lake.

Walk-in wardrobes in Mayfair: what you get

We fit walk-in wardrobes in Mayfair and across London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and talking through the design, then a written quote. Once agreed, we make the units in our workshop and fit them in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you will know before we start. We make walk-in wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the things people most often want solved are turning a box room into a dressing room and separate space for two people’s clothes.

In streets where many homes were built before 1919, as they were around Mayfair, lots of bedrooms have solid brick external walls. Those walls can be colder than internal ones, so wardrobes and storage on them are designed with ventilation behind and inside to help avoid condensation. Small back bedrooms and box rooms are common too, and they suit walk-in wardrobes and other fitted storage well.

If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we will tell you. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

From workshop to your room

Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.

  1. We start with the room you have in mind and what needs a home.
  2. We visit, measure up and plan the layout with you, with shoe storage and a dressing table if you’d like them.
  3. You get a written quote for the design we have agreed.
  4. Everything is made and finished in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The units are fitted in your home and trimmed to follow the walls.

How to prepare

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit for you to look over. To arrange the visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

I live near Bond Street station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Westminster and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can a box room become a walk-in wardrobe?

Often, yes. It depends on the room’s shape and where the door and window sit. We plan it at the measuring visit.

You choose it. We agree the colour with you.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a written quote follows.

What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes

Not every room costs the same, for these reasons:

  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Helping us understand the room

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall

You don’t need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, message us from the contact page and tell us about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

What prompts walk-in wardrobes in Mayfair

After a loft conversion or a change of layout, a room may be left without a clear use. A walk-in wardrobe is a popular way to use it.

We’re often asked to help with:

  • Storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe
  • A walk-in wardrobe in a box room
  • Moving wardrobes out of the bedroom
  • Somewhere to sit and get ready

Near listed buildings like Naval and Military Club, under half a mile south of the centre of Mayfair, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Whether you’ll get a written quote, not just a figure
