Fitted wardrobes in Mayfair: what you get
You can choose hinged or sliding doors. With hinged doors, you see a full section when you open them, but they need clear space in front to swing. Sliding doors suit tighter rooms, but only part of the inside is open at any one time. We weigh them up with you at the measuring visit. People typically come to us about too little room for clothes and space under the eaves going to waste, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
In a Victorian bedroom, the chimney breast normally sits on a side wall, with a recess to each side. That layout is worth knowing around Mayfair, where a large share of homes were built before 1919. Storage can go in each recess, with a bridge of cupboards over the chimney breast. Any capped chimney is kept ventilated.
The furniture is made at our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Why bespoke in Mayfair?
Standalone wardrobes cost less to buy and can come with you when you move. That’s a real advantage if you are renting or moving soon. Fitted wardrobes stay with the room. The two recesses beside a chimney breast are seldom an identical size, and standard units bought as a pair rarely suit both. Fitted furniture is made to each one separately.
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Fitted wardrobes in Mayfair: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 51% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Mayfair, with about 20% built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. 23 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Mayfair. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your street in Mayfair joins a main road, it is worth telling us during the design visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
For a family home near LITE Regal International School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. The wider area includes historic houses such as Handel Hendrix House, about 0.2 miles north. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.
Mayfair is about 1 mile north-west of City of Westminster, in the City of Westminster. Design visits and fitting in Mayfair can be on a Saturday, by prior arrangement. In Westminster, Mayfair is one of the places we cover, and the borough has 29 places on our list.
Every home in W1K, W1F and W1U is covered for fitted wardrobes, from the main roads to the quieter streets. You will find streets here such as Park Lane, Bruton Lane and Market Mews, and homes on each of them are within our area for fitted wardrobes. The A4201 and A4202 run close to Mayfair; on busy main roads, unloading fitted wardrobes takes a little planning. We also cover the places around Mayfair: Burlington Estate (1 mile east), City of Westminster (1 mile north-west), Marylebone (1 mile north), St James's (1 mile east) and Chinatown (1 mile east). Across the rest of Westminster, our area takes in Westbourne (2 miles west), Little Venice (2 miles north-west), Westbourne Green (2 miles west), Pimlico (2 miles south), Maida Vale (2 miles north-west) and St John's Wood (2 miles north-west).

Common questions about fitted wardrobes
I live near Bond Street station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Westminster and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.
My home in Mayfair is a period house with walls that aren’t straight. Is that a problem?
Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.
How is the price worked out?
Every job is priced for its room: size, internal fittings, the finish and how tricky the walls are all play a part. The written quote follows the design visit.
Which is better for fitted wardrobes, hinged or sliding doors?
The space in front of the wardrobe typically decides it. If a bed or a door is close, sliding doors can make more sense. We look at it with you when we measure.
What happens on fitting day
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, particularly in a controlled parking zone, so it’s useful to tell us at the measuring visit what’s outside. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement.
- You describe the bedroom and the storage you need. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
- A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout, with your clothes in mind.
- A quote in writing follows. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
- Once you are happy, the wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, ready to use.
Preparing the room
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
How to get a quote
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

The problems fitted wardrobes solve
Most people come to us because they’ve simply run out of space. Clothes spill onto chairs, into spare rooms and under the bed. A fitted wardrobe uses the full height of the wall, so you get more storage from the same floor space.
People typically get in touch with us about needs like these:
- Storage boxes stacked under the bed
- Space under the eaves going to waste
- Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
- Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
If your home is one of the older houses near Grosvenor Chapel, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- A quote in writing that sets out the job
- Where they’ll park and unload
What affects the price in Mayfair
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
What we need to know
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It’s useful to include:
- Any ideas or images you have saved
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Your postcode and the borough
- How you want to use the space

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.
