About our TV and media units in Three Mills

Speakers need their own thought. A soundbar can sit on a shelf below the screen, while larger speakers suit open shelves at the sides. Speakers work best in the open rather than behind closed doors. Most enquiries start with alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste and a tangle of wires behind the TV; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

In a home built since 2000, the aerial point and sockets are typically already fixed in place. Many homes around Three Mills are from those years, so TV and media units are usually designed around what’s already there. Any new socket is a job for your electrician, and we leave space and cable routes for it.

If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Living-room storage in Three Mills

About 56% of the homes in the area around Three Mills went up since 2000, and about 17% between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Three Mills is partly covered by the Three Mills Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. More than half of the homes in the neighbourhood around Three Mills (about 56%) were built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). In homes built since 2000, living rooms are often open-plan with stud walls, so TV and media units are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor.

For a family home near East London Science School, shelving with deep cupboards below keeps books, games and school things in one place. Living in a block of flats near West Ham station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If your home is one of the older houses near St Mary's Church, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place.

Three Mills is about 1 mile east of Plaistow, part of the London Borough of Newham. Anywhere in Three Mills, the process is the same: a design visit, a written quote, furniture made in our workshop and fitting in your home. Three Mills is one of 26 places on our list for Newham.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Bought units come in the maker’s finishes. Ours are painted in a colour agreed with you, sprayed in the workshop or painted by hand. Newer homes often have compact rooms where standard furniture leaves awkward gaps, and fitted furniture uses that space. It can also be planned around boxed-in pipes and risers.

Awkward rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That is reflected in the quote, written once we’ve measured up.

Why us?

  • Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
  • More than 300 projects completed
  • A design visit, then a written quote
  • Built around your room

Tips worth knowing

Getting the most from TV and media units starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:

  • Think about the viewing height from your sofa
  • Find out how much space each box needs around it
  • Note the size of each box and speaker
  • Think about whether you want the screen on a bracket or on a shelf

Once your equipment is in, check that it is not running hot. Keep vents, gaps and open backs clear of cables and clutter.

Do not let clutter build up against the unit’s vents as things change.

Fitting day, step by step

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. On the day, floors are covered first and the sections brought in. The pieces are levelled and fixed with fixings that suit the wall. Hand-painted finishes can be completed once the furniture is in.

  1. You get in touch with details of the room and where it is in your home.
  2. At the design visit we measure the wall and also the hall, stairs and doorways the unit has to pass through.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. The unit is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
  5. The sections are carried in, assembled and set level, ready for your equipment. The finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.

How to prepare

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

Getting a quote

Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you’re ready, drop us a line using the contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Your questions about TV and media units in Three Mills

I live in a flat in Three Mills. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. TV and media units are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Do you make TV and media units for homes in Three Mills?

Yes, we work across Newham, Three Mills included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details.

Will my boxes get too hot inside the unit?

Equipment gives off heat, so it needs air around it. The unit is planned with open backs or gaps where boxes go. Keep the vents clear once it is in use.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and discuss the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a written quote.

How long does it take to fit a TV unit?

The fitting depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The unit is built in our workshop first, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.

Where should speakers go in a TV unit?

We plan open spaces for speakers and soundbars. Closing speakers behind a door muffles them, so we leave them open.

When you need someone else

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:

  • Connecting and setting up your equipment
  • Plastering or decorating around the unit
  • Installing aerials, satellite dishes or broadband

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can message us from the contact page and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

What it’s made from

  • Ventilated cabinets
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Cable routes

How it’s made

Spray-painted finish

Because it’s sprayed before fitting, the unit comes painted. Treat it gently while the paint cures fully.

Plinths and scribe strips

A plinth lifts the unit and takes up an uneven floor. It can line up with the skirting.
