How we make TV and media units for Spring Park

A built-in TV unit gives the screen, the boxes, the speakers and the cables one planned home. Instead of a stand, a tangle of wires and a few odd shelves, the whole wall is designed at once. For a living room in Spring Park, we start with a design visit to measure and talk through what you use. Typical reasons to get in touch are space for a soundbar and speakers and wasted space around the screen; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

A good part of the housing around Spring Park is interwar, semi-detached or detached. In a typical 1930s house, the front room has a bay at one end and a chimney breast with an alcove to either side, and that layout shapes where TV and media units work best. Walls are often truer than in older houses, but they’re still measured carefully and scribed where they wander.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Why bespoke in Spring Park?

Bought units come in the maker’s finishes. Ours are painted in a colour agreed with you, sprayed in the workshop or painted by hand. Off-the-shelf units come in set widths, so a run along a wall usually ends with a gap, so fitted furniture is made to the wall’s own length. It can also go up to the ceiling rather than stopping short.

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Flats, conversions and lettings

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you contact us.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them at the design visit.

How fitting works for TV and media units

On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made at our workshop come in next, a piece at a time. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it is worth mentioning during the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

  1. You describe the TV wall and your equipment, from set-top boxes to speakers.
  2. A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout.
  3. We put the design, materials and finish into a quote in writing. If anything in it is unclear, ask us.
  4. We then make the unit in our workshop.
  5. The unit is fitted in your home, ready for your equipment.

Before we arrive

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Is it time for TV and media units?

Equipment on the floor is another reason. A unit gives every box its own space, with air to keep it cool, and keeps the floor clear.

If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:

  • Empty alcoves beside the TV
  • Bought furniture that doesn’t suit the room
  • Boxes and consoles on the floor
  • Leads that show from every angle

The wider area includes historic houses like Addington Palace, about 1.3 miles south. If your own home is a period one, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • Whether they measure the room themselves

Living-room storage in Spring Park

In the area around Spring Park, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 62%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 22%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for TV and media units, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Spring Park, Historic England’s list includes Church of All Saints (Grade II), less than half a mile south, and The White Lodge (Grade II), under half a mile north-east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling may need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. About 65% of households in the neighbourhood around Spring Park live in detached or semi-detached houses, the 2021 Census shows. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.

For families living near Forest Academy, a cupboard for board games and a shelf for reading books can go into the same design. Close to Millers Pond? Shelving that stops short of the window keeps the view of the green.

Questions from Spring Park

Do you make TV and media units for homes in Spring Park?

Yes, Spring Park is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Croydon and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Spring Park?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Can the TV unit fit a bigger TV later?

If you are likely to upgrade, we can leave room for it. Tell us the size you have in mind.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, but it helps to be around at the end.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

It’s something we deal with all the time. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base, so there are no gaps at the sides.

How long are you in the house for fitting?

It depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The making happens in our workshop, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.
