Fitted wardrobes in Spring Park
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Getting a big standalone wardrobe into a flat or up a tight stair can be difficult. We make fitted wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. Off-the-shelf furniture comes in a few set depths, which may be too deep for one spot and too shallow for another. With fitted furniture, the depth is chosen for the room.
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

About our fitted wardrobes in Spring Park
In a period bedroom, the alcoves beside the chimney breast make natural wardrobe spaces. A pair of alcove wardrobes keeps the chimney breast as a feature, scribed to follow the uneven walls. Picture rails and cornices can be met neatly or cut around. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are space under the eaves going to waste and a bedroom that never feels tidy.
A loft conversion is a common way to add a bedroom to a semi or an interwar house, and that slope can be used for storage built to the angle. Around Spring Park, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a large part of the housing. We work in lofts that are already converted, with each piece scribed to the slope and set level.
You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Flats, conversions and lettings
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route at the design visit.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.
Caring for painted furniture
A few practical points help before and after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Clear the wall where the wardrobes will go before fitting day
- Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
- Count how much long hanging and short hanging you need
- Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed
Once clothes go in and the wardrobes are in daily use, doors may settle slightly. Most hinges can be adjusted to bring a door back in line, and sliding doors can be reset on their track.
Keep any ventilation gaps clear, especially where the wardrobe meets an outside wall. Look out for a musty smell or spots on clothes and have the cause looked at early.
Questions from Spring Park
Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Spring Park?
Yes. Spring Park is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Croydon and London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to West Wickham station?
Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Is it OK to put a wardrobe on an outside wall?
Yes. We plan ventilation behind and inside wardrobes on external walls, using moisture-resistant MDF. If there is damp on the wall already, it should be sorted first.
What happens during the design visit?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and discuss the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a quote in writing follows.
Can you build wardrobes around a bed?
Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. We plan it so the bed fits comfortably and the room still feels open.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.
Materials and finishes
Birch plywood
For drawers that are used every day, birch plywood boxes are hard-wearing, standing up to daily opening.
Moisture-resistant MDF
With no grain to show through, MDF gives a calm painted finish. The moisture-resistant grade is our choice for fitted work.
How fitting works for fitted wardrobes
Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it is worth mentioning at the measuring visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

- At the design visit we measure the room and agree the layout and doors.

- We build the wardrobes in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The wardrobes are fitted and scribed, with any hand painting done in the room.
- At the end we check each door and drawer with you; fresh paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.

Bedrooms in Spring Park: local notes
About 62% of the homes in the streets around Spring Park went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 22% between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Spring Park include Church of All Saints (Grade II), under half a mile south, and The White Lodge (Grade II), less than half a mile north-east. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Croydon sets its own rules. Depending on your street in Spring Park, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. Parking near your home is worth mentioning at the measuring visit.
Living in a block of flats near West Wickham station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. Close to Millers Pond? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. If your children go to Forest Academy or a school nearby, fitted wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow.
