About our TV and media units in Tottenham Hale

Hiding the cables is often the main aim. We plan cable routes through the unit from the start, with holes, channels and access panels so leads can be added or changed later. We make the routes, and your electrician handles any wiring. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a big screen that dominates the wall and standard units leaving gaps.

In a home built since 2000, the aerial point and sockets are normally already fixed in place. Many homes around Tottenham Hale are from those years, so we design TV and media units around the existing points rather than moving them. If you want an extra socket, that is for your electrician, and we leave space and cable routes for it.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Bespoke furniture takes longer than buying from a shop: there is a design visit, a quote and making time. For a short stay, a standalone stand can make more sense. Standalone furniture fixed to plasterboard needs the right fixings, and often doesn’t get them. Built-in pieces are designed with the right fixings from the start, and heavy pieces can stand on the floor.

We don’t publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, use our contact form.

What TV and media units cannot fix

It’s worth being clear about where our work stops:

  • Any electrical work (your electrician handles that, and Part P covers some of it)
  • Connecting and setting up your equipment
  • Structural changes to the wall

If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

What it’s made from

Plinths and scribe strips

Scribing trims the edges on site to follow the wall.

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting often suits units in older houses. You choose the colour.

Flats, conversions and lettings

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

From workshop to your room

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Newer blocks often have concierge desks, entry systems and rules on lift booking, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. The furniture is built in sections that fit the lift and doorways.

  1. You get in touch with details of the room and where it is in your home.
  2. We visit to plan the unit and check the way in.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. In our workshop we make the unit in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We bring the sections in, join them on the wall and scribe them to fit. The finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.

Preparing the room

  • Tell us about parking near your home
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Getting a quote

We quote once we’ve seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Questions from Tottenham Hale

My home in Tottenham Hale is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Is Tottenham Hale in the area you cover for TV and media units?

Yes. We cover all of Haringey and the rest of London, and Tottenham Hale is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Who moves the sockets for a built-in TV wall?

We do not do electrical work. Sockets and wiring are for your electrician, and Part P of the Building Regulations covers some electrical work in homes. We share the layout so the sockets line up with the design.

How do I get started?

Simply drop us a line using the contact form. It helps to send rough measurements and a few pictures, and then we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design.

Do pictures help?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. To send them, get in touch through our contact form.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
