Need walk-in wardrobes in Bellingham?

When is bespoke worth it?

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Bellingham

A box room is often too small for a bed but just right for a dressing room. Lined with hanging and shelves, it can hold far more than a wardrobe in the bedroom, leaving the bedroom with more space. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a dressing table with drawers and a mirror and a walk-in wardrobe in a box room.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Bellingham, the spare room may be the small one at the front, over the hall and stairs. Small rooms like that suit walk-in wardrobes, whether the room is a guest room, a dressing room or a study. Nothing is assumed: the room is measured wall by wall.

A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

How we price walk-in wardrobes

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:

  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • The internal fittings
  • How square the room is
  • Spray painting or hand painting

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It is useful to talk about parking at the design visit, so it can be planned.

What we need to know

To give us a picture of the room, it’s useful to include:

  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

Bedrooms in Bellingham: local notes

In the area around Bellingham, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 55%) and before 1919 (about 18%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. There are 5 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Bellingham. Being near listed buildings does not make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your street in Bellingham joins a main road, it is worth telling us at the measuring visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

If you live in a period home close to St Dunstan, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. Near listed buildings like The Fellowship Inn Public House, under half a mile north-east of the centre of Bellingham, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. Living in a block of flats near Bellingham station? Then walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we’ve measured the way in.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them at the design visit.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

Is Bellingham in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?

Yes. Bellingham is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Lewisham and London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with a few details.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Bellingham?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. We are carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.

How are walk-in wardrobes priced?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The size of the room, the layout and the finish all make a difference. For a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Do photos help?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough sizes. To send them, use our contact form.

Can you put a walk-in wardrobe in part of a bedroom?

Yes, where the room is large enough. A section of the room can become a dressing area, open or behind doors. Any new partition is for your builder, and we fit the furniture.

Fitting day, step by step

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are normally straightforward, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. Walk-in wardrobes arrive in sections and are assembled in place, with floors protected throughout.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about your clothes, shoes and bags and how you get ready.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
  3. You receive a written quote for the walk-in wardrobe.
  4. The units are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.

Before fitting day

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way

Getting a quote

We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, then send a written quote. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To book a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
