Loft storage in Bellingham, Lewisham
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on loft storage in Bellingham starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.
- Unused space in a dormer
- A loft room that still feels unfinished
- Needing storage in a loft office
Loft storage in Bellingham
Loft storage in Bellingham: what you get
A loft room can hold a great deal of storage, if the low spaces are used well. We design and make eaves cupboards, drawers in the knee walls, wardrobes under the slopes and shelves in dormers, all made for the shape of the room. In Bellingham, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. Most enquiries start with unused space in a dormer and seasonal things cluttering the loft room, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Coats, shoes, bags and the vacuum cleaner all need somewhere to go in a family house. Around Bellingham, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses make up a big part of the housing, fitted storage near the front door can take much of it. Anything that needs to stay reachable, like meters or a fuse board, is designed around.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Why people ask for loft storage in Bellingham
Many people get in touch once their loft conversion is complete. Standard furniture rarely suits the new room. Fitted storage finishes the room.
If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:
- Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs
- A dormer that isn’t being used
- A converted loft with no fitted furniture
- No wardrobe that fits under the slope
For a flat near Bellingham station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.
What to check before you book
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Will the quote be in writing?
- Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
Practical tips
These points come up often when people plan loft storage. They help whatever the room:
- Think about what will go in each cupboard or drawer
- Note how narrow the loft stairs are
- Consider drawers for the deep, low spaces
- Tell us about parking at the design visit
When you load the drawers and cupboards, put heavy things low. That keeps the drawers running smoothly. We size the shelves for what you said you’d keep there.
Loft rooms can be warm in summer and cool in winter. A little ventilation helps. That keeps the storage and the paint in good order.
Common questions about loft storage
Is parking a problem for fitting in Bellingham?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
I live near Bellingham station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Lewisham and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you get in touch.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture, which helps avoid condensation and mould. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
Will eaves storage block the ventilation?
It shouldn’t, if it is designed properly. The storage is planned around the insulation and ventilation behind the knee wall. For worries about existing insulation or vents, ask the people who did the conversion.
What are your eaves cupboards made from?
Our loft storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then painted. Stable materials suit a loft, where temperatures can vary. Your quote confirms the materials and finish.
Honest limits
It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:
- Building Regulations approval for a conversion
- New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician
- Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.

Storage in Bellingham homes: local notes
About 55% of the homes in the area around Bellingham went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 18% before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Bellingham, Historic England’s list includes The Fellowship Inn Public House (Grade II), less than half a mile north-east. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. About 55% of homes in the streets around Bellingham date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Loft conversions are common in houses of that age, and the eaves can take fitted storage.
Kingswood House, about 2.5 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk. Close to Forster Memorial Park? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

What happens on fitting day
In older rooms, the furniture typically has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. How long the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. The main stairs in houses of that age are normally straighter. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.

- We come to measure and go through the design and finish.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- The storage is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and sprayed there if you chose a spray finish.
- The storage is fitted and scribed to the slopes, and any hand painting is done on site.
- Fresh paint needs time to cure, so use the doors and drawers gently at first.
Before fitting day
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
Getting a quote
Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, especially with rough measurements. To share them, drop us a line using the contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.
Advice
Could you do it yourself?
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
