Pricing walk-in wardrobes in Southend
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:
- Spray painting or hand painting
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
Before the design visit
Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Your postcode and the borough
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we have measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.
Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Southend
A walk-in wardrobe can also be part of a bedroom. Where a bedroom is large enough, a section can be set aside with a partition or a run of units, either open to the room or behind doors. Any new partition wall is for your builder, and we fit the furniture inside. People usually come to us about more space for clothes and shoes and a built-in dressing table, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
In a 1930s semi, the main bedroom often sits over the front room and its bay, so fitted storage usually goes on the walls either side while the bay stays open. Interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing around Southend, so that shape of room is worth knowing. Every wall is measured, as a room that looks square rarely is.
Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Questions from Southend
Is parking a problem for fitting in Southend?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Southend?
Yes, we work across Lewisham, Southend included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details.
How is the furniture painted?
You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Just mention it when you get in touch, and we will see what we can do.
Can you put a walk-in wardrobe in part of a bedroom?
Yes. A run of units can define a dressing area, while any new walls are for your builder.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so ask the council’s conservation officer.
Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?
Standard systems come in set widths and heights and rarely reach the ceiling. A bespoke design can run to the ceiling and fill the walls, so very little space goes to waste. Bays, box rooms and stair bulkheads are where off-the-shelf furniture struggles most, and interwar homes often have all three. Fitted furniture is made around them.
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Southend
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Southend were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 55%) and before 1919 (about 18%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List records 5 entries within half a mile of the centre of Southend. Being near listed buildings does not make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Lewisham is inside it. Vans bringing furniture to Southend fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. How the van gets to your door is planned at the design visit.
Near listed buildings like The Fellowship Inn Public House, under half a mile north-east of the centre of Southend, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. For a family home near Elfrida Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.

Is it time for walk-in wardrobes?
Couples sharing a wardrobe often want more space each. We can design separate areas for hanging, shelves and drawers, so both have room.
We’re often asked to help with:
- A dressing table with drawers and a mirror
- A dressing area in part of a bedroom
- A walk-in wardrobe in a box room
- The right mix of long and short hanging
Close to Forster Memorial Park? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.
Before you choose who makes it
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- How doors and drawers are fitted
- A written quote that sets out the job

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made at the measuring visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. The main stairs in houses of that age are typically straighter. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.
- You let us know about the room and what you want to store.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan the hanging, shelves and drawers, including any dressing table.
- A quote follows, setting out the design and finish.
- We build everything in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- Fitting day: the units are fitted and trimmed to the room.
Before we arrive
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
