What prompts walk-in wardrobes in Gospel Oak
Some people want a calmer bedroom. With clothes in a dressing room, the bedroom can feel more restful.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- A use for a small spare room
- Storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe
- Proper shoe storage
- A built-in dressing table
If your children go to Carlton Primary School or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.

Walk-in wardrobes in Gospel Oak: what you get
You can have doors, open storage or a mix. Doors keep dust off and give a calm look, and open rails make it quick to find things. We will go through the options at the measuring visit. People typically come to us about somewhere to sit and get ready and moving wardrobes out of the bedroom; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
With a large share of homes around Gospel Oak built before 1919, plenty of bedrooms have solid brick external walls. Cold external walls can lead to condensation, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture is part of the design. Small back bedrooms and box rooms are common too, and they suit walk-in wardrobes and other fitted storage well.
The quote comes in writing, so there is time to read it properly. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

From workshop to your room
With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Scribing is done on site, which means some cutting in the room or close by, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. We keep dust down and tidy as we go. Hand painting, if that is your finish, can follow the fitting.
- First, you tell us about the space.
- We visit, measure and talk through hanging, shoe storage and a dressing table, planned around the way you get dressed.
- A written quote is sent to you.
- Everything is made in our workshop.
- The walk-in wardrobe is fitted in your home.
Before fitting day
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
How to get a quote
Rough measurements are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes
My house in Gospel Oak is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?
Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.
Do you cover homes near Gospel Oak station?
Yes. We cover all of Camden and the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
Getting it in is planned during the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
Is ventilation important in a dressing room?
Yes, it helps avoid condensation and mould. The design allows air to circulate, and any damp on the walls should be sorted before fitting.
Bedrooms in Gospel Oak: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 48% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Gospel Oak, with about 19% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The National Heritage List has 58 entries within half a mile of the centre of Gospel Oak. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and walk-in wardrobes can be designed to work around them. Flats in converted or shared houses account for about 29% of households in the streets around Gospel Oak, according to Census 2021. In a converted house, rooms can be odd shapes, with new partitions meeting old walls, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Martin, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent. If you live in a flat close to Gospel Oak station, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

What it’s made from
Shelves
Upper shelves are good for cases and seasonal clothes, while daily things stay within reach.
Doors and drawer fronts
We can include a dressing table with drawers where there’s space.
Could you do it yourself?
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t normally do that in an older room.
Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
