Walk-in wardrobes in Honor Oak
Flats, leases and landlords
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we have measured the way in.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.
About our walk-in wardrobes in Honor Oak
Lighting makes a big difference in a dressing room. Wiring for new lights is a job for your electrician. We can plan the units so there’s space for the lighting you want, and agree the details at the measuring visit. Most enquiries start with a dressing area in part of a bedroom and proper shoe storage, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Victorian and Edwardian bedrooms typically have a chimney breast on one wall and a recess either side. That layout is worth knowing around Honor Oak, where a large share of homes were built before 1919. Fitted furniture can fill both recesses and bridge the chimney breast with high cupboards, leaving the breast itself clear. The flue behind is kept ventilated, and any damp is sorted first.
We write quotes in plain English, without jargon. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Flat-pack or bespoke?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t normally do that in an older room.
How fitting day works
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out.

Honor Oak homes and walk-in wardrobes
About 54% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Honor Oak went up before 1919, and about 17% between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. There are 25 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Honor Oak. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Parking on many inner London streets is controlled, with zones run by each borough. A van working in Honor Oak will normally need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension arranged through the council, which often needs notice. Let us know about parking near your home at the design visit.
If your children go to St Francesca Cabrini Primary School or a school nearby, walk-in wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. Close to Peckham Rye? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window.

Pricing walk-in wardrobes in Honor Oak
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
Awkward rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That is reflected in the quote, written once we have measured up.
What to send when you get in touch
A few details help us understand the job before we visit. When you contact us, it helps to send:
- What the furniture needs to hold
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Examples of the look you’re after
To get a quote, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.
Common questions about walk-in wardrobes
My home in Honor Oak is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Walk-in wardrobes are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
I live near Honor Oak Park station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Southwark and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
How long does fitting take?
It depends on the room. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you’ll know before we start.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
That’s normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.
Should I send photos?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
How is the furniture painted?
You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Do you need walk-in wardrobes in Honor Oak?
Some people want a calmer bedroom. With clothes in a dressing room, the bedroom can feel more restful.
We are often asked to help with:
- Hanging for coats, dresses and shirts
- Setting aside a corner of a large bedroom
- A dressing table with drawers and a mirror
- Shelves for shoes and bags
If you live in a flat close to Honor Oak Park station, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.
What to check before you book
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
