Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Brockley

Walk-in wardrobes in Brockley: what you get

You can have doors, open storage or a mix. Doors keep dust off and give a calm look, while open storage lets you see everything at once. We will talk through the options during the design visit. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about hanging for coats, dresses and shirts and a bedroom without crowded wardrobes.

A large share of the homes around Brockley were built before 1919, and bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast with an alcove either side. Fitted storage can sit in the alcoves or span the wall, chimney breast and all. Because older floors slope and walls bow, everything is scribed and levelled on site.

The quote comes in writing, so there’s time to read it properly. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Pricing walk-in wardrobes in Brockley

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:

  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The overall size of the piece

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Helping us understand the room

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, message us from the contact page.

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Brockley

My home in Brockley is a period house with walls that are not straight. Is that a problem?

Yes, that’s normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.

I live near Crofton Park station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Lewisham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can a walk-in wardrobe be part of a bedroom?

Yes, where the room is large enough. A section of the room can become a dressing area, with doors or left open. Any new partition is for your builder, and we fit the furniture.

What finishes do you offer?

You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Is it better to have doors or open storage?

That depends on how you like to use the space. We can fit doors, open storage or both, and we go through the options when we measure.

Can you turn a small spare room into a dressing room?

Often, yes. The layout depends on the room, the door and the window. We plan it during the design visit.

From workshop to your room

The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that’s what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You contact us about a walk-in wardrobe or dressing room.
  2. We visit to plan the room and measure the way in, including stairs, landings and doorways.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. In our workshop we build the units in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We carry the sections in, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls.

Preparing the room

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

How to get a quote

Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you’re ready, drop us a line using the contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

If you’re likely to move soon, standalone furniture you can take with you may suit better. How long you will stay is worth weighing up before choosing fitted. Standard furniture is drawn for modern rooms, so its proportions can look odd in a tall period room, while fitted furniture can follow the room’s own lines, with panels and details to suit the house.

Rooms that are not square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it.

Before and after fitting day

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • Think about long versus double hanging
  • Line up your electrician for any new lights
  • Plan shoe storage around what you own
  • Keep the room ventilated

Adjustable shelves can be moved as your clothes change, so the space keeps working. It is worth a rethink each season.

Deal with any damp before the units go in. Cooler external walls can lead to condensation, so we allow for ventilation.
