Wall beds in Bell Green, Lewisham

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make wall beds for homes in Bell Green, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • A guest bed that disappears in the day
  • A playroom that can sleep visitors
  • Storage built around a fold-down bed

Wall beds designed for your room

From workshop to your room

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Fitting day means joining the sections, fitting them to the walls and setting them level. The fixings suit whatever the walls are made of. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. We start with how the room is used and who’ll sleep there.
  2. We visit to measure up and look at what the wall is made of.
  3. A quote follows, setting out the design and finish, ready to check.
  4. We build and finish everything in our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: the cabinet is fitted and the bed checked as it lowers and lifts.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Advice

Wall beds in Bell Green: what you get

A wall bed folds up into a fitted cabinet when you don’t need it and is lowered again at night. It means a room can work as more than a bedroom, like a spare room that is also a study. We build the cabinet around the bed to suit the room and finish it to match. People typically come to us about a guest room that sits empty most of the time and room for a desk and a guest bed; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

In a part of London with mixed housing, like much of the city, bedrooms range from box rooms to large rooms with bays and sloping ceilings. Wall beds can work in any of them, from a small spare room to a main bedroom. Nothing is assumed to be square, so the room is measured carefully.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Questions from Bell Green

Is parking a problem for fitting in Bell Green?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

How do you fit wall beds in a flat in Bell Green?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. Wall beds are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Can a wall bed have storage around it?

Yes. We often design the bed as part of a wider storage wall, so the whole wall is useful. We plan it so the bed still has room to come down.

Do you supply the mattress?

The mattress needs to suit the mechanism by size, depth and weight. We can talk you through what the mechanism allows, so the mattress you choose fits.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps, which helps avoid condensation and mould. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Where other trades come in

It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:

  • Plastering or decorating the room
  • New sockets, lighting or wiring (your electrician)
  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers

Not sure whether your space suits wall beds? You can use our contact form and we will tell you. How it works.

What goes into it

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Fold-down bed mechanism
  • Shelves or a desk alongside

What affects the price in Bell Green

What you pay depends on:

  • The internal fittings
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • How square the room is
  • The overall size of the piece

We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, message us from the contact page.

Before the design visit

Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:

  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • What the furniture needs to hold

Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, drop us a line using the contact form. The written quote follows the visit.

When is bespoke worth it?

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

It is worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

That way we can plan where to load and unload.

Close to Mayow Park? Wall beds are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. The wider area includes historic houses like Kingswood House, about 2.1 miles west. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design. If you live in a flat close to Lower Sydenham station, the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.
