What it costs
What you pay depends on:
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- How big the furniture is
- Parking near your home
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
What we need to know
Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
To make a start, message us from the contact page and tell us which room you have in mind. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.
Wall beds in Lewisham
The cabinet is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray painted in our workshop or hand painted. Doors on the front can look like a run of cupboards, sitting quietly in the room. We make wall beds from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are somewhere comfortable for guests to sleep and a study that doubles as a spare room.
In a part of London with mixed housing, like much of the city, bedrooms range from box rooms to large rooms with bays and sloping ceilings. Wall beds can work in any of them, from a small spare room to a main bedroom. Nothing is assumed to be square, so the room is measured carefully.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

Is bespoke worth it?
Standard units seldom reach the ceiling or fit wall to wall. A bespoke cabinet can run the full width and height and fill the rest of the wall with storage. Gaps behind, beside and above ready-made furniture collect dust, while fitted pieces are scribed tight to the walls and ceiling, which makes cleaning simpler.
Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Why people ask for wall beds in Lewisham
Working from home has changed how many spare rooms are used. People want a desk by day and a bed for visitors, and a wall bed makes that possible.
People usually get in touch with us about needs like these:
- A playroom that can sleep visitors
- Hiding the bed when it is not in use
- More floor space in a studio flat
- Somewhere comfortable for guests to sleep
The wider area includes historic houses such as Queen's House, about 1.4 miles north. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give wall beds room to reach the cornice.
Before you choose who makes it
- Whether you’ll get a written quote, not just a figure
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- How they handle walls that aren’t straight
FAQs: wall beds in Lewisham
My home in Lewisham is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Wall beds are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Lewisham?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.
Are fold-down beds safe to use?
Safety depends on a secure fixing and sensible use. We fix the mechanism as its maker specifies; you lower it steadily with the floor clear.
What if my walls and floors are out of level?
It’s something we deal with all the time. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base, so it sits tight to the room.
Will a wall bed work on my wall?
It depends on the wall and floor. The mechanism must be fixed to a sound wall or floor, as its maker specifies, so we check it at the design visit.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.
Wall beds in Lewisham: local notes
In the area around Lewisham, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 37%) and the years since 2000 (about 32%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how wall beds are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Lewisham, Historic England’s list includes St Mary's Vicarage (Grade II*), less than half a mile south-west, and Church of St Mary the Virgin (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles south-west. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. About 32% of homes in the streets around Lewisham were built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Newer homes often have compact bedrooms with plasterboard stud walls, so fitted pieces use the full height and are fixed into the studs.
If you live in a flat close to Lewisham station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If you live in a period home close to St Stephen's Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design.

What we do not do
Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work aren’t part of what we do. There are a few other points to bear in mind:
- Decorating around the cabinet
- Building work to make a wall sound
- Wiring for lights or chargers
If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.
What it is made from
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Hand-painted finish
- Birch plywood
- Shelves or a desk alongside
- Fold-down bed mechanism
- Spray-painted finish
How fitting day works
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. On fitting day, each piece is fitted to the room’s own walls, scribed where walls bow and levelled where floors slope. Spray-painted pieces arrive finished; hand-painted ones can be finished on site.
