What affects the price in Bell Green

Not every room costs the same, for these reasons:

  • The overall size of the piece
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Parking and unloading on your street

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Before the design visit

When you contact us, these help most:

  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any

Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you are ready, send us a few details through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a written quote.

Fitted wardrobes for homes in Bell Green

In a period bedroom, the alcoves beside the chimney breast make natural wardrobe spaces. A pair of alcove wardrobes keeps the chimney breast as a feature, and each one is scribed to walls that are rarely straight. Picture rails and cornices can be met neatly or cut around. We make fitted wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are empty alcoves in the bedroom and gaps above and around standalone wardrobes.

Across London, neighbouring streets can be decades apart in age, and the walls in a bedroom might be brick, blockwork, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Each wall is checked during the design visit before fixings are chosen. With a chimney breast, the alcoves are the obvious place; without one, a full wall normally is.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Is bespoke worth it?

Modular interior systems can be rearranged easily, and that flexibility is useful. A bespoke interior is planned around your clothes from the start, and adjustable shelves keep some flexibility. A standard unit is the same in every home, whatever the room is like, whereas fitted pieces are designed for one room: yours. It can be painted in a colour chosen for that room.

How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Do you need fitted wardrobes in Bell Green?

A finished loft conversion often leaves a new bedroom with sloping walls and no storage. Wardrobes built under the slope use space that would otherwise sit empty.

Here’s what fitted wardrobes can help with:

  • An tricky slope in a loft bedroom
  • Empty alcoves in the bedroom
  • Standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall

If you live near Mayow Park, keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked

Fitted bedroom furniture in Bell Green

About 35% of the homes in the streets around Bell Green went up before 1919, and about 28% between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Bell Green include Fire Station (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north-west, and Church of St George (Grade II), about 0.6 miles north. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, such as fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. A quarter or more of the homes in the streets around Bell Green (about 28%) date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead.

If your children go to Haseltine Primary School or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. For a flat near Lower Sydenham station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Questions from Bell Green

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Lower Sydenham station?

Yes, homes across Lewisham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

I live in a flat in Bell Green. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Fitted wardrobes are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Who chooses the colour?

The choice is yours. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Electrical work is not something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Can fitted wardrobes follow a sloping ceiling?

Yes. Sloping ceilings are common in loft conversions, and fitted wardrobes are one of the best ways to use them. The slope is measured at the measuring visit and the wardrobe scribed to it on site.

Fitting day, step by step

The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Fitting day means joining the sections, fitting them to the walls and setting them level. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether brick, block, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom.
  2. At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
  3. You receive a quote setting out the design and the paint finish.
  4. The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: the wardrobes go in, are levelled and scribed, and the doors are hung.

How to prepare

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
