Wall beds in Hounslow West

We fit wall beds in Hounslow West and across London. First comes a design visit, where we measure and look at the wall, then a quote in writing. The cabinets are made at our workshop and fitted in your home. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Typical reasons to get in touch are a guest bed that disappears in the day and a playroom that can sleep visitors; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

A loft conversion is a common way to add a bedroom to a semi or an interwar house, and that slope can be used for storage built to the angle. Around Hounslow West, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a large part of the housing. Our part starts once the loft has been converted, with each piece scribed to the slope and set level.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the wall bed we have designed for the room, what it is made from and how it’s finished.

What affects the cost of wall beds

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • The width and height of the space
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish

Awkward rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it.

What we need to know

You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. It’s enough to send:

  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them over, use our contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Could you do it yourself?

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.

Is bespoke worth it?

Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, rather than a quick order. What you get is one design that suits the room and the way you use it. Off-the-shelf furniture comes in a few set depths, which may be too deep for one spot and too shallow for another. Fitted furniture is made to the depth the space can take.

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, and that’s part of the price. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space.

Why us?

  • Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
  • Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
  • Designed for the room you have
  • Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight

Bedrooms in Hounslow West: local notes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 33% of the housing in the streets around Hounslow West, with about 19% built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Hounslow West, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Paul (Grade II), under half a mile north-east. For a listed home, internal works that affect its character may need listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Hounslow is inside it. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Hounslow West. Access and parking are talked through at the design visit.

If you live near Hounslow Heath, keeping wall beds off the window wall keeps the room bright. If you live in a flat close to Hounslow station, wall beds are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If your children go to Hounslow Heath Infant and Nursery School or a school nearby, wall beds in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow.

Your questions about wall beds in Hounslow West

Is Hounslow West in the area you cover for wall beds?

Yes, Hounslow West is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Hounslow and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Hounslow West?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

How much does a wall bed cost?

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. A single bed cabinet and a full wall with shelves and a desk are very different jobs, so we quote once we have seen the room. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

How long does fitting take?

How long fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We will talk it through during the design visit.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Can a wall bed have storage around it?

Yes, and it’s one of the best ways to use the wall. Shelves and cupboards around the bed make the most of the space, while new sockets are for your electrician.

Fitting day, step by step

At the end, we tidy up. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. How long the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the room and how often guests stay is plenty.
  2. We visit to measure up, look at the wall and floor and make sure there’s clear space in front to lower the bed.
  3. A quote in writing follows, covering the cabinet, the materials and the finish.
  4. The bed housing and any shelves or desk are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinet in your home and fix the mechanism as its maker specifies.
  6. We go through the bed with you; the cabinet has the spray-painted or hand-painted finish you chose.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Advice

What wall beds can’t fix

We make and fit furniture, and we don’t do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Making good the walls after other work
  • Building work to make a wall sound
  • Advice on your lease

If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room. How it works.
