Isle of Dogs Fitted Wardrobes

Thinking about fitted wardrobes in Isle of Dogs? We start with a design visit and a written quote.

  • Too little room for clothes
  • Standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall
  • Mismatched bedroom furniture

Need fitted wardrobes in Isle of Dogs?

What happens on fitting day

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Before fixing into a stud wall, we check for pipes and cables, and heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor. Any new sockets or plumbing are for your electrician or plumber.

  1. You describe the bedroom and the storage you need.
  2. A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout.
  3. We put the design, materials and finish into a quote in writing.
  4. We then make the wardrobes in our workshop, ready for spraying or for hand painting on site.
  5. We bring them to your home and fit them in place.

Before fitting day

  • Empty the space we will be working in
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

Arranging a design visit

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit for you to look over. To arrange the visit, message us from the contact page.

About our fitted wardrobes in Isle of Dogs

We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in a colour agreed with you. Then we fit them in your home, levelling them on a plinth or adjustable feet. If you’re living with a tight bedroom where doors get in the way and wardrobes that are full to bursting, that is what fitted wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

A large number of homes around Isle of Dogs date from 2000 onwards, and newer bedrooms are often compact, with plasterboard walls. Fitted wardrobes are fixed into the studs or held by fixings made for the board. Any built-in cupboard that came with the home can be replaced or extended to match.

If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Fitted wardrobes in Isle of Dogs: local notes

About 52% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Isle of Dogs went up since 2000, and about 24% between 1973 and 1999, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. There are 20 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Isle of Dogs. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Controlled parking zones cover much of inner London, and each borough runs its own. That usually means a van in Isle of Dogs needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit.

For a flat near Greenwich station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If your children go to Harbinger Primary School or a school nearby, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. For an older house near Church of St Nicholas, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

What it’s made from

Birch plywood

Shelves inside a wardrobe carry folded clothes, shoes and boxes. Birch plywood helps keep them straight, even across a wide section.

Spray-painted finish

A sprayed coat covers edges, corners and panels evenly for a smooth finish. You choose the colour before we start.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Isle of Dogs?

Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London, and Isle of Dogs is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

I live near Greenwich station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?

It depends on the room. Hinged doors open a whole section at once but need room in front to swing. We talk through both at the design visit.

How is the inside of the wardrobe planned?

You choose the mix of hanging, shelves and drawers. Long hanging, double hanging, shelves, drawers and shoe space can all be included, in the proportions you need. We plan it with you when we visit.

Can you build wardrobes around a bed?

Yes. Storage around a bed makes good use of a wall that’s often wasted and can include bedside shelves. We measure the bed and the room at the measuring visit.

Should I send photos?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Why bespoke in Isle of Dogs?

Standalone wardrobes cost less to buy and can come with you when you move. That’s a real advantage if you’re renting or moving soon. Built-in wardrobes become part of the house and are made for that room alone. In a newer flat, big flat-pack units can be hard to get into the lift or through the door, while fitted furniture comes in sections sized for the route. The sections are joined and fixed once inside.

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

Why us?

  • Saturday work by arrangement
  • Every quote follows a design visit
  • Work across the whole of London
  • Edges scribed to follow your walls

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.

Before and after fitting day

Getting the most from fitted wardrobes starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:

  • Check your lease before fixing furniture to walls in a leasehold flat
  • Work out the split between long and short hanging
  • Check the route into your flat, not just the room
  • Decide what goes on shelves and what goes in drawers

Leave a little space between clothes and the back of the wardrobe where the wardrobe sits on an outside wall. A little airflow helps keep damp at bay.

Spread heavy items rather than piling them in one place. Rails and shelves are planned for normal use, so mention anything unusually heavy when we plan.
