Eden Park Window Seats

In Eden Park, we design window seats around the room you actually have. Your window seat is designed at a visit to your home and made in our workshop.

  • Nowhere to keep blankets, toys or books
  • A radiator under the window getting in the way
  • Off-the-shelf pieces that never quite fit the window

Window seats designed for your room

About our window seats in Eden Park

A well-made window seat gives you a place to sit in the best light in the room. Our window seats are made for bays, sash windows and the recesses beside them, normally with storage below, under a lift-up lid or in drawers. For a home in Eden Park, it starts with a design visit to measure the window and discuss the design. We make window seats from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about toys spread across a bedroom floor and standard furniture leaving gaps in a bay.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Eden Park, the hallway may be wider than in a Victorian terrace, with room for a cupboard by the door. Bays at the front suit a seat with storage below, with a grille so any radiator below keeps heating the room. Window seats are measured and made for the house you have.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

What prompts window seats in Eden Park

A quiet place to read is a common wish. A window seat, perhaps with shelves either side, does exactly that. It’s often the most-used seat in the house.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • A period room that needs furniture to suit it
  • No space for toys and games
  • Off-the-shelf pieces that never quite fit the window
  • A recess under the window doing nothing

Bromley Palace, about 2.2 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bay or a sash window is a natural place for a window seat.

What to check before you book

  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?

FAQs: window seats in Eden Park

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Eden Park?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit.

Do you make window seats for homes in Eden Park?

Yes. Eden Park is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Bromley and London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details.

How is a window seat priced?

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The shape of the window, the mix of drawers and lids, and any grille all play a part. Everything is set out in a quote in writing after the visit.

Will a window seat work below a sash window?

Yes. The seat is set below the cill so the window can still open and close. Where there are shutters, the seat is planned so they still open fully. These details are measured when we visit.

Which materials go into your window seats?

Our window seats are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then painted. Next to a window, the moisture-resistant grade is a sensible choice. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

How long will the window seat fitting take?

The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the bay or recess and what goes under the seat, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Because everything is made at our workshop, the work in your home is the fitting itself. We keep the room as tidy as we can while we work.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Standard storage benches come in set sizes. A seat made for your window can use the full width and depth of the bay or recess, with drawers, a lift-up lid or a mix below. Ready-made units come in standard depths that rarely suit every space, which may be too deep for one spot and too shallow for another. With fitted furniture, the depth is chosen for the room.

Rooms that are not square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, written once we have measured up.

Fitted storage in Eden Park

About 64% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Eden Park went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 20% since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for window seats, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Eden Park, Historic England’s list includes Oak Lodge (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south, and Langley Court Chapel (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north-east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling may need listed building consent. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. All of London, Bromley included, is inside the ULEZ. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Eden Park. Parking and access are planned during the design visit.

For an older house near St John's Eden Park, a seat under a sash window can keep shutters and cills clear. If you live in a flat close to Eden Park station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

From workshop to your room

At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. How long fitting takes depends on whether the seat has drawers, a lift-up lid or a radiator grille, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room.

  1. You get in touch about a window seat.
  2. At the design visit we agree the seat and talk about colour, with a choice of spray painting or hand painting.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the design, materials and finish.
  4. The seat is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray-painted finish is done there for a smooth, even surface.
  5. The seat is fitted and scribed, and any hand painting is done on site.
  6. Fresh paint takes a while to cure, so go gently with the seat and lids at first.

How to prepare

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

How to get a quote

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we have measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Advice

Boards, parts and paint

Spray-painted finish

Spraying gives a smooth, even surface. We spray in the workshop, so the finish is complete before the seat comes to you. You choose the colour.

Doors and drawer fronts

The fronts of a window seat are what you see most. They can be plain or panelled, with handles chosen to suit the room. Where needed, a grille is part of the front.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
