Window seats in Victoria, Westminster
Window seats in Victoria: window seats for bays and under sash windows, with storage inside. We visit to measure and talk through the design, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it.
- A period room that needs furniture to suit it
- A radiator under the window getting in the way
- A bay with no furniture that fits
Window seats designed for your room
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
About our window seats in Victoria
A window seat can hide a surprising amount of storage. A lift-up lid opens the whole space beneath the seat, while drawers are easier to reach if there is a cushion on top. At the design visit in Victoria, we will help you choose. Typical reasons to get in touch are standard furniture leaving gaps in a bay and no space for toys and games, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
A solid brick outside wall in an older house can be cold and sometimes damp, so a gap and ventilation behind fitted storage help avoid condensation. A large share of the homes around Victoria date from then. Damp should be sorted before anything is fitted against the wall.
The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the window seat designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it is finished, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

What happens on fitting day
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the window and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.
- It starts when you get in touch with some details about the window, including any radiator under it.
- We come to measure and plan the seat, the storage and any radiator grille with you. We also talk about lift-up lids or drawers.
- A written quote follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out, for you to look over.
- We make the seat, the lids or drawers and any grille in our workshop. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The seat is fitted in your home and checked so the lids and drawers run well. Any radiator grille is fitted so heat can still reach the room.
Before we arrive
- Empty the space we will be working in

How to get a quote
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, especially with rough sizes. To share them, use our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
Advice
Fitted storage in Victoria
In the neighbourhood around Victoria, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 48%) and the years since 2000 (about 18%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. The centre of Victoria is within about a quarter of a mile of the Grosvenor Gardens Conservation Area. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of inner London. In Victoria, a van will usually need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know about parking near your home at the design visit.
For a flat near London Victoria station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. The wider area includes historic houses such as Buckingham Palace, about 0.4 miles north. For a period home anywhere nearby, the deep reveals of an older window can frame a seat neatly.

What we don’t do
We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:
- Making the seat cushion, which is not our work
- Plastering and decorating around the seat
- Fixing the window itself
If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Flats, leases and landlords
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you contact us.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
Do you need window seats in Victoria?
The most common reason is wanting to make more of a bay or window. A bay can be an tricky space for furniture, and a seat makes it part of the room. It becomes a place to sit, read or look out.
Some of the things we’re asked to solve include:
- Unused space below a sash window
- Needing more storage in the room
- No comfortable place to sit in the light
- A room with shutters and sashes that deserves a proper seat
For families living near St Peter's Eaton Square CofE Primary School, window seats can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit.
What to check before you book

- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
Your questions about window seats in Victoria
My home in Victoria is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Can you fit window seats to the uneven walls of an older house in Victoria?
Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, but it helps to be around at the end.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. We are carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
What does a bespoke window seat cost?
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. A bay with angled sides involves more work than a straight recess, and drawers more than a lid. Everything is set out in a quote in writing after the visit.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
