About our bespoke kitchens in Pimlico
A larder cupboard can hold more than a run of wall units. We can build larders with shelves, drawers or racks inside the doors, planned around what you store. Built into an alcove or the end of a wall, it puts awkward space to work. We make kitchens from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are an island where space allows and a larder for food and small appliances.
In many homes built since 2000, the kitchen runs along one wall of the living space. Many homes around Pimlico were built since 2000, and a run like that works harder with tall cupboards taken to the ceiling. The worktop, sink and appliances are your choice.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

When is bespoke worth it?
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s quick to buy.
Bespoke kitchens for homes in Pimlico
Homes built since 2000 make up about 42% of the housing in the area around Pimlico, with about 29% built before 1919, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of Pimlico, Historic England’s list includes Church of St James The Less (Grade I), less than half a mile north-east, and St James The Less Parish Rooms and Schools (Grade I), under half a mile north-east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, can require listed building consent from the council. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Pimlico, as it does anywhere else in London. How the van gets to your door is planned at the measuring visit.
Close to Pimlico Gardens? A cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen. The wider area includes historic houses like Buckingham Palace, about 0.9 miles north. If your own home is a period one, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. For an older house near St Gabriel's, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.
Pimlico is part of the City of Westminster, about 2 miles north of City of Westminster. Homes in Pimlico are part of the area we cover for bespoke kitchens. We cover places right across Westminster, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.
Design visits and fitting in SW1P, SW1V and SW1W work the same way as everywhere else we cover. You will find streets here like Ponton Road, Wilton Road and Ebury Square, and we cover homes on all of them for bespoke kitchens. Main roads around Pimlico include the A202 and A3212. Close by, we also work in Victoria (1 mile north-west), Nine Elms (1 mile south-west), Westminster (1 mile north), Millbank (1 mile north) and Vauxhall (1 mile east). Across the rest of Westminster, our area takes in City of Westminster (2 miles north), Marylebone (2 miles north), Soho (2 miles north), Chinatown (2 miles north), Covent Garden (2 miles north-east) and Mayfair (2 miles north).
Around Pimlico
We fit furniture in homes around Pimlico Academy, Lambeth Palace Library and Denbigh Arms. Pimlico’s nearest station is London Victoria station, roughly 0.5 miles north-west of the centre. A little further out are The Gordon Hospital (under half a mile north-east) and Health Exhibition Centre (0.5 miles north-west). Green spaces nearby include Battersea Park Lake.
How fitting day works
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the measuring visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving the room tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Newer homes often have finished floors, painted walls and new doors that mark easily, so everything on the way in is covered before the sections arrive. Door frames and corners get covers too. The sections are assembled in the room.
- You get in touch with a few details about the kitchen. Say a little about the way you cook.
- We visit, measure and go through the layout, larder, dresser or island.
- You receive a written quote.
- Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics.
How to prepare
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand

Materials and finishes
Doors and drawer fronts
Doors and drawer fronts can be flat, framed or panelled, painted in a colour you choose.
Birch plywood
Long kitchen shelves can sag under plates and jars, unless they’re built strong.
Before and after fitting day
The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. These practical tips help:
- Deal with damp walls first
- Let us know how parking works on your street
- Think about how the cabinets will get in
- Talk to your other trades in good time
Don’t leave water sitting on painted cabinets, especially around the sink and dishwasher. Moisture-resistant MDF copes well, but standing water is best avoided.
Leasehold flats can have rules about alterations, so check your lease early. Your lease is something to check with whoever manages the building.
FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Pimlico
I live in a flat in Pimlico. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Kitchens are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Pimlico?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
Which worktops and appliances can I have?
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and the cabinets are made to suit them. Your quote sets out what’s included.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, but it helps to be around at the end.
Where other trades come in
As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:
- Plastering, tiling or decorating
- Connecting sinks, taps and dishwashers
- Wiring for appliances and lights
If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.
