Could you do it yourself?
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Bespoke kitchens for homes in Mayfair
A kitchen needs other trades as well as a carpenter. Your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, so the design allows for pipes, cables and connections. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are open shelves with cupboards below and a painted kitchen in a colour you choose.
Ceilings in homes built before 1919 are often tall, and a large share of the homes around Mayfair date from then. Kitchen cabinets can go higher, with tall larders and top cupboards for occasional things. Moisture-resistant MDF suits a kitchen, and the paint finish is agreed in your quote.
If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

What it is made from
Moisture-resistant MDF
For painted cabinet fronts, moisture-resistant MDF is our usual choice, because it stays flat.
Birch plywood
We use birch plywood where strength matters, which matters in drawers and shelves that carry weight. The edge can be left on show or painted.
Kitchens in Mayfair: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 51% of the housing in the area around Mayfair, with about 20% built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Mayfair include Naval and Military Club (Grade I), less than half a mile south, and Church of St Mark's (Grade I), less than half a mile north-west. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Near central London, streets tend to be narrow and busy, so carrying the sections from the van to the door takes planning.
For an older house near Grosvenor Chapel, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top. For a flat near Bond Street station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. For families living near LITE Regal International School, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen.
Mayfair is part of the City of Westminster, about 1 mile north-west of City of Westminster. Design visits and fitting in Mayfair can be on a Saturday, by arrangement. Mayfair is one of 29 places on our list for Westminster.

Questions from Mayfair
My home in Mayfair is a period house with walls that are not straight. Is that a problem?
Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.
Is Mayfair in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?
Yes. We cover all of Westminster and the rest of London, and Mayfair is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
Getting it in is planned during the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
What are your kitchens made from?
Our kitchens are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it, and it’s agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.
From workshop to your room
On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made at our workshop come in next. How long fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out.
- We start with how you use the kitchen and what isn’t working. It helps to know the worktop, sink and appliances you have in mind.
- At the design visit we measure the room and discuss the layout, storage and finish.
- A written quote follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish.
- The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made in our workshop.
- We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician handle the plumbing, gas and electrics.
Before we arrive
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

Related advice
Made-to-measure kitchens or ready-made?
Many off-the-shelf kitchens use chipboard carcasses with a printed or wrapped finish. Ours are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray or hand painted, finished to suit the room. Ready-made units stop well short of a tall period ceiling, wasting space that could hold things you rarely use. Fitted furniture can go all the way up.
Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We can’t advise on your lease.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, as it makes good use of an tricky room. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.
