Bespoke kitchens for homes in Donnybrook Quarter
A dresser brings a traditional feel to a kitchen, and in a period house it can look as if it has always been there. Each dresser is made for its wall and finished to match the rest of the kitchen. We make kitchens from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about cabinets built around the appliances you choose and a kitchen island with room around it.
Many homes around Donnybrook Quarter were built since 2000, and some came with kitchens that suit the building more than the people living in it. Cabinets made for your room can take its place, with the worktop, sink and appliances you choose. Gas, plumbing and electrics are for the right trades.
Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

What happens on fitting day
In older rooms, the furniture normally has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer homes often have finished floors, painted walls and new doors that mark easily, so everything on the way in is covered before the sections arrive. Corners and door frames are covered as well. The sections are assembled in the room.

Getting a quote
It’s useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, get in touch through our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
Advice
Could you do it yourself?
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.
Tips worth knowing
New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:
- Think about how you cook and what you store
- Know your appliance sizes early
- Check there is room around an island before planning one
- Measure the route into the kitchen
Do not leave water sitting on painted cabinets, especially around the sink and dishwasher. Even moisture-resistant materials last better when kept dry.
Choose your appliances before the design is finalised. Their sizes shape the cabinets, so late changes can be awkward.
FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Donnybrook Quarter
Is parking a problem for fitting in Donnybrook Quarter?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
How do you fit bespoke kitchens in a flat in Donnybrook Quarter?
We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Kitchens are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not usually. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, and furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.
Will a bespoke kitchen suit my uneven floor?
Yes, that is part of the job. Walls in older homes are rarely flat and floors often slope, so every cabinet is scribed and levelled.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
Made-to-measure kitchens or ready-made?
Neither choice is right for every home. If the room is square and the budget is tight, a ready-made kitchen may do the job. For period homes, tricky rooms or a painted look, bespoke tends to earn its place. Large standalone pieces do not always fit the lift or the hallway, whereas fitted furniture is made in sections that fit. The sections are joined and fixed once inside.
In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. It is useful to talk about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.
