Made-to-measure kitchens in Fish Island

About 49% of the homes in the area around Fish Island went up since 2000, and about 22% between 1973 and 1999, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The National Heritage List records 8 entries within half a mile of the centre of Fish Island. Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. Parking on many inner London streets is controlled, with zones run by each borough. A van working in Fish Island will typically need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension arranged through the council, which often needs notice. Tell us what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

The wider area includes historic houses such as Sutton House, about 1.3 miles north-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top. If your children go to Mossbourne Riverside Academy or a school nearby, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off.

Fish Island is part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, about 3 miles south-west of Whitechapel. We work across all London boroughs and the City of London, and Fish Island is part of that. In Tower Hamlets, Fish Island is one of the places we cover, and the borough has 31 places on our list.

We make bespoke kitchens across E3, E9 and E20. Our area takes in homes on streets such as Wick Lane, Dace Road and Wyke Road, for bespoke kitchens and any of our other fitted furniture. About our bespoke kitchens in Fish Island

A dresser brings a traditional feel to a kitchen, and in a period house it can look as if it has always been there. Each dresser is made for its wall, scribed to follow it and painted to suit the room. If your home has a painted kitchen in a colour you choose and cabinets built around the appliances you choose, that is what kitchens are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

In newer homes, the washing machine is often in the kitchen, with no utility room, so laundry and cleaning things need a place in the kitchen. Many homes around Fish Island date from 2000 onwards. Plumbing for appliances is for your plumber.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Practical tips

These points come up often when people plan bespoke kitchens. They’re worth knowing whatever the room:

  • Measure the route into the kitchen
  • Share the layout with your other trades
  • Pick the oven, fridge and dishwasher first
  • Wipe up spills promptly

If a hand-painted door gets a chip, it can be touched in. A spray finish gives a smooth, even surface that wipes clean. Keep a note of the paint colours.

Measure the route into the kitchen not just the room. Workshop-made furniture comes in sections sized for stairs, hallways and lifts, so let us know about any narrow spots.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Fish Island?

Flats with tricky kitchen walls are another reason. Bespoke cabinets can make the most of a small or odd-shaped room without wasting space.

If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:

  • A central island in a larger kitchen
  • Extra cupboard space
  • Spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets
  • Making the most of a galley kitchen

If you live in a flat close to Hackney Wick station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Fish Island

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Fish Island?

It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Fish Island?

Yes, Fish Island is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.

What happens at the measuring visit?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a quote in writing.

Who chooses the colour?

The choice is yours. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you’ve chosen.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.

What are your kitchens made from?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray painting or hand painting. Your quote sets out the materials and finish.

From workshop to your room

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, so on fitting day heavy pieces go into the studs or stand on the floor. Floors are protected throughout, as many newer homes have finished floors that mark easily, and dust is kept to a minimum.

  1. To begin, fill in our short enquiry form; a brief note on the room and the kitchen you have in mind is plenty.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
  3. A quote in writing follows for the cabinets, materials and finish. Plumbing, gas and electrics aren’t part of it: those are for your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.
  4. We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home, working around your plumber, your electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Before fitting day

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

How to get a quote

Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To get started, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.

Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

When you need someone else

It’s worth being clear about where our work stops:

  • New sockets or circuits
  • Painting the walls around the kitchen
  • Building work, like removing walls

If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room. How it works.
