About our walk-in wardrobes in Fish Island
Good light helps you see colours and find things, and any new lights or wiring are for your electrician. We plan the units with your electrician’s work in mind, and agree the details during the design visit. If you are living with room for two wardrobes in one space and long and double hanging planned around your clothes, walk-in wardrobes made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.
Many newer homes have tall windows or full-height glazing in the bedroom, which leaves fewer walls for storage. Many homes around Fish Island were built since 2000, so we make the most of the walls you have. Corner sections are planned so nothing is wasted.
Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Fish Island
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Fish Island were built since 2000 (about 49%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 22%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Fish Island, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Mary of Eton (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles north-west, and Lock Cottages (Grade II), less than half a mile west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your home is on or just off a main road, it’s useful to mention it. Then we can work out where to load and unload.
If your children go to Mossbourne Riverside Academy or a school nearby, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. For an older house near St Mary of Eton, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

What prompts walk-in wardrobes in Fish Island
Most people come to us because their clothes have outgrown their wardrobes. Clothes are squashed together and shoes pile up. A walk-in wardrobe gives everything room.
We’re often asked to help with:
- Somewhere to sit and get ready
- Proper shoe storage
- The right mix of long and short hanging
- Room for two wardrobes in one space
Sutton House, about 1.3 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.
Choosing a carpenter
- Real projects you can actually look at
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
What we do not do
We’re carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. It helps to know these before you plan the job:
- Damp treatment or repairs
- Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
- Building a new partition wall

How we price walk-in wardrobes
We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:
- How big the furniture is
- How square the room is
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
Getting in touch
What helps most when you first contact us:
- Examples of the look you’re after
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Approximate measurements of the space
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
To get a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.
How fitting day works
You won’t need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and it’s useful to have the room cleared beforehand. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so everything on the way in is covered before the sections arrive. Door frames and corners get covers too. The sections are assembled in the room.
- To begin, send us a few details through our contact form; a brief note on the room and what it needs to store is plenty.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan hanging lengths, shelves, drawers and shoe storage with you.
- You receive a written quote for the walk-in wardrobe.
- The units are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.
Before we arrive
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
Getting a quote
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, particularly with rough sizes. To share them, use our contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Questions we’re often asked
How do you fit walk-in wardrobes in a flat in Fish Island?
At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. Walk-in wardrobes are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Fish Island?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
What happens at the design visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Do I get to choose the colour?
The choice is yours. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.
Should I send photos?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.
