Bespoke kitchens in Fulwell

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. We plan each space around the appliances you have chosen, from the oven housing to the dishwasher. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote. People normally come to us about spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets and a kitchen that fits an uneven room; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Around Fulwell, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the original kitchen was probably small, and many have since been extended or opened up. A bespoke kitchen can be planned around the room as it is now, with an island where space allows.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

Is it time for bespoke kitchens?

Some want a kitchen that suits a period house. A painted kitchen with a dresser can feel at home in an older room and look as if they belong.

Common reasons to get in touch include:

  • Cabinets for a narrow kitchen
  • A central island in a larger kitchen
  • A pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers
  • A kitchen for a room that is not square

For a family home near Stanley Primary School, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen.

What to check before you book

  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight
  • Will the quote be in writing?

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

From workshop to your room

Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. First, you let us know about the kitchen you have and the one you want. It helps to know the worktop, sink and appliances you have in mind.
  2. We visit, measure the walls, floor and ceiling, and go through the design, including where the sink and appliances will go.
  3. A written quote follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish, for you to read through.
  4. We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop.
  5. The kitchen is fitted in your home, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe engineer do the plumbing, electrics and gas.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Tell us about parking near your home
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance

Getting a quote

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, message us from the contact page, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Fulwell

Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Fulwell?

Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Fulwell?

Yes, we work across Richmond upon Thames, Fulwell included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details.

Do you handle the gas and electrics for the kitchen?

No, those are jobs for other trades. Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician, and we fit the cabinets.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

The furniture is built in sections, sized for the route as well as the room. That is why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways during the design visit.

Can you fit cabinets to walls that are not straight?

Yes. Each cabinet is trimmed to the wall and levelled, to give a level line for the worktop. It’s one of the main reasons people choose bespoke in an older house.

What are the kitchen cabinets made of?

Moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, and birch plywood where strength matters. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in colours agreed with you.

What affects the cost of bespoke kitchens

Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Parking near your home
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • The overall size of the piece

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Helping us understand the room

Ahead of the design visit, we will usually ask about:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Any ideas or images you have saved
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

We quote once we have seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To book a design visit, use our contact form.

When you need someone else

Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we do not do:

  • Building work, such as removing walls
  • Wiring for appliances and lights
  • Connecting sinks, taps and dishwashers

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can message us from the contact page and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Boards, parts and finishes

  • Larders and dressers
  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Islands where space allows

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Made-to-measure kitchens in Fulwell

Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The centre of Fulwell is within about a quarter of a mile of the Royal Road Conservation Area. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

Close to Carlisle Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. Living in a block of flats near Fulwell station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.
