Bespoke kitchens in Kingsland: what you get
Our bespoke kitchens are fitted in Kingsland and all over London. It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through the layout, followed by a quote. Once agreed, the kitchen is made at our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days. If you’re living with open shelves with cupboards below and a layout for a small or awkward room, that is what kitchens are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
An open-plan kitchen in a flat is on show from the sofa, and doors, panels and paint colour are chosen with that in mind. Most households around Kingsland live in purpose-built flats. End panels and a matching tall unit can tie the kitchen to the living space.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

What bespoke kitchens cannot fix
As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. It helps to know these before you plan the job:
- Wiring for appliances and lights
- Moving water or waste pipes
- Knocking through or rebuilding walls
Not sure whether your space suits bespoke kitchens? You can get in touch through our contact form and we’ll tell you. How it works.

- Hand-painted finish
- Islands where space allows
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Spray-painted finish
- Larders and dressers
- Birch plywood
Fitting day, step by step
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Sections come into the flat in the order they’re fitted, so the flat doesn’t fill up. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. Fixings are chosen for each wall, solid or plasterboard.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Kingsland
Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Kingsland?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Kingsland?
Yes. We cover all of Hackney and the rest of London, and Kingsland is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
How are bespoke kitchens priced?
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Every kitchen is different, so we quote once we’ve measured. To get started, message us from the contact page.
Is there room for an island in my kitchen?
Yes, where there’s space. At the design visit we check the clearances around it. If it would crowd the kitchen, we’ll say so.
How do you get large furniture into a flat?
Getting it in is planned at the measuring visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
How long does fitting take?
It depends on the kitchen. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you can plan your other trades around it.
Caring for painted furniture
Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:
- Treat new paintwork gently at first
- List what needs a home in the kitchen
- Choose your appliances before the design is final
- Let us know about parking at the design visit
Use the cooker hood or open a window when cooking, to keep steam off the cabinets. Ventilation helps the whole kitchen.
If you live in a leasehold flat, check your lease before changing the kitchen. We can’t advise on your lease.
Kitchens in Kingsland homes
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Kingsland were built before 1919 (about 37%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 23%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. There are 108 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Kingsland. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. Controlled parking zones cover much of inner London, and each borough runs its own. In Kingsland, a van will normally need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Tell us what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
For families living near Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier. If you live in a flat close to Dalston Junction station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. If your home is one of the older houses near Holy Trinity Church, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Standard cabinets come in set widths, so the room has to fit the units. Bespoke cabinets are made to the room’s real sizes from wall to wall. Ready-made units can’t follow the boxing and risers found in many flats, so it ends up with gaps or blocks access. Built-in pieces are designed around them, with access kept.
Tricky rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That’s reflected in the quote, which we write after seeing the room.
