About our bespoke kitchens in Upper Clapton
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. Knowing the appliance sizes early lets us leave the right spaces, so everything fits as it should. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote. Typical reasons to get in touch are spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets and extra cupboard space; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
A kitchen gets more use than any other room, so the inside of the cabinets matters as much as the outside. In Upper Clapton, as anywhere in London, we talk through how you use the kitchen during the design visit. Drawers for pans, a tall larder and a place for the bin are worth planning from the start. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. All of London, Hackney included, is inside the ULEZ. What prompts bespoke kitchens in Upper Clapton
Flats with tricky kitchen walls are another reason. Bespoke cabinets can make the most of a small or odd-shaped room without wasting space.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- More storage in a small kitchen
- Spaces sized for your oven and fridge
- A dresser that suits a period house
- A kitchen that fits an uneven room
Near listed buildings like White Lodge, less than half a mile south-west of the centre of Upper Clapton, older homes may keep original joinery that kitchens can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?

Materials and finishes
Plinths and scribe strips
We use plinths and adjustable feet to level the units on a sloping floor. Scribe strips close the gap to a wall that is not straight.
Birch plywood
Long kitchen shelves can sag under plates and jars, unless they’re built strong.
What bespoke kitchens cannot fix
Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:
- Wiring for appliances and lights
- Moving water or waste pipes
- Structural changes to the room
If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.
What goes into it
- Birch plywood
- Hand-painted finish
- Spray-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Islands where space allows
- Larders and dressers
FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Upper Clapton
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Upper Clapton?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to let us know about parking during the design visit.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Clapton station?
Yes, homes across Hackney and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
Getting it in is planned during the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
Can you build an island in my kitchen?
Where space allows, yes. An island needs clear floor around it to open doors and move about, and we measure for it at the design visit. If the room is narrow, we will suggest other layouts.
What does a bespoke kitchen cost?
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The size of the room, the number of units and the finish all make a difference. To arrange a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so let us know about it at the measuring visit.
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we’ve measured the way in.
What happens on fitting day
Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Fitting day means joining the sections, fitting them to the walls and setting them level. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether brick, block, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Saturdays can be arranged.
