Manor House Bespoke Kitchens

In Manor House, we design bespoke kitchens around the room you actually have. We design your kitchen at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • A kitchen that fits an uneven room
  • Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
  • A central island in a larger kitchen

Made-to-measure kitchens in Manor House

In the area around Manor House, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 54%) and the years since 2000 (about 18%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Manor House, Historic England’s list includes Engine House of Metropolitan Water Board (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles south, and Church of St Olave (Grade II), under half a mile east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can require listed building consent from the council. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Purpose-built flats are home to about 46% of households in the streets around Manor House, the 2021 Census shows. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.

If you live near Chestnuts Park, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. For a family home near Woodberry Down Community Primary School, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier. The wider area includes historic houses such as Bruce Castle, about 2.1 miles north-east. If your own home is a period one, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.

Bespoke kitchens in Manor House: what you get

Islands work well in kitchens with room to walk around them. We check there is comfortable space on every side, because a cramped island makes a kitchen harder to work in. Where space is tight, a peninsula or a longer run may suit better. Most enquiries start with cabinets built around the appliances you choose and spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

A large share of the homes around Manor House were built before 1919, and in many Victorian and Edwardian terraces the kitchen sits in a narrow back addition. Cabinets are scribed to walls that wander and levelled on floors that slope. The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the kitchen we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and it is what the workshop builds to.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Manor House

My home in Manor House is a period house with walls that are not straight. Is that a problem?

Yes, that’s normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Manor House?

Yes. We cover all of Hackney and the rest of London, and Manor House is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, and then we send a quote.

What are the kitchen cabinets made of?

Moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, and birch plywood where strength matters. We spray paint in the workshop or hand paint, in colours agreed with you.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

Flats, conversions and lettings

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so each section is sized to get through.

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.

What affects the price in Manor House

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • The overall size of the piece

Awkward rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it, written once we’ve measured up.

Before the design visit

You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:

  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Looking after your furniture

A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:

  • Choose your appliances before the design is final
  • Wipe up spills promptly
  • Make sure walls are dry before cabinets go in
  • Check there is room around an island before planning one

Once the kitchen is fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first and avoid harsh cleaners. After that, a soft cloth and mild soapy water is enough.

Damp walls should be dealt with before cabinets are fitted. Damp behind units can lead to mould, especially on a colder external wall.

What bespoke kitchens can’t fix

We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Moving water or waste pipes
  • Plastering, tiling or decorating
  • Building work, such as removing walls

If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so a clear area to work in near the room helps. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Where the finish is hand-painted, it can be done after the pieces are in.

  1. First, you tell us about the room.
  2. We visit, measure and discuss the layout, larder, dresser or island, where space allows.
  3. A quote in writing is sent to you, setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. The kitchen is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics. It is useful to have those trades booked in good time.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
