Kitchens in Hackney Marshes homes

In the neighbourhood around Hackney Marshes, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 33%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 28%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. There are 7 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Hackney Marshes. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Parking on many inner London streets is controlled, with zones run by each borough. That usually means a van in Hackney Marshes needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council. Let us know about parking near your home during the design visit.

If you live near Leyton Jubilee Park, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen. The wider area includes historic houses like Sutton House, about 1.1 miles south-west. If your own home is a period one, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.

About our bespoke kitchens in Hackney Marshes

We make kitchens to fit the room, not a catalogue of set sizes. Each cabinet is made to the real measurements of your walls, floor and ceiling, so the runs fit neatly from wall to wall. The layout, storage and finish are planned with you, and the kitchen is built in our workshop before it is fitted. Typical reasons to get in touch are a central island in a larger kitchen and a kitchen planned around your appliances; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

The inside of a kitchen matters as much as the doors. In Hackney Marshes, as anywhere in London, we talk through how you use the kitchen at the design visit. Pan drawers, a larder and somewhere for the recycling are planned in early. Cabinets are made from moisture-resistant MDF or birch plywood.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the kitchen we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and it is what the workshop builds to.

When you need someone else

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Electrics, sockets and lighting (your electrician)
  • Connecting sinks, taps and dishwashers
  • Any work on the gas supply

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are assembled, scribed to the walls and levelled. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether brick, block, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. First, you tell us about the room. Say a little about the way you cook.
  2. We visit, measure and talk through the layout, larder, dresser or island, where space allows.
  3. You receive a written quote.
  4. Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going

Arranging a design visit

To get a quote, message us from the contact page and tell us a little about the room. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.

Advice

What prompts bespoke kitchens in Hackney Marshes

Uneven walls and floors make standard kitchens hard to fit. Gaps and wavy lines are hard to hide, and a bespoke kitchen is scribed and levelled to avoid that.

Bespoke kitchens can help with:

  • A painted dresser for the kitchen
  • Making the most of a galley kitchen
  • Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
  • Extra cupboard space

For families living near Kingsmead Primary School, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted

Common questions about bespoke kitchens

My home in Hackney Marshes is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Kitchens are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Lea Bridge station?

Yes, homes across Hackney and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.

Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?

The cabinets are designed for the worktop, sink and appliances you have picked. Knowing their sizes early helps, and the quote confirms what’s included.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it’s worth raising at the design visit.

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.

Practical tips

Looking after painted furniture is simple. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Measure the route into the kitchen
  • Pick the oven, fridge and dishwasher first
  • Let us know about parking at the design visit
  • Line up your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer early

We adjust the doors and drawers as part of the fitting. Walls and floors shift slightly through the year, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even.

Measure the route into the kitchen as well as the room. We make the cabinets in sections that fit through the doors and up the stairs, so let us know about tight turns or small lifts.
