Vauxhall Bespoke Kitchens

Thinking about bespoke kitchens in Vauxhall? We start with a design visit and a written quote, before anything is made.

  • A kitchen that fits an uneven room
  • Tall larder storage
  • A kitchen finished in your colours

Before and after fitting day

A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:

  • Check stairs, hallways and lifts for access
  • Allow space to walk round an island
  • Choose your appliances before the design is final
  • Let us know how parking works on your street

We adjust the doors and drawers as part of the fitting. Walls and floors shift slightly through the year, so hinges allow small adjustments later.

Leasehold flats can have rules about alterations, so check your lease early. We cannot advise on your lease.

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Vauxhall

Kitchens in period houses bring their own challenges. Walls lean, corners aren’t square and floors slope, which shows up quickly along a run of cabinets. We scribe the cabinets to the walls and set them level on adjustable feet or a plinth giving a level line for the worktop you choose. Typical reasons to get in touch are a kitchen for a room that isn’t square and making the most of a galley kitchen; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Single-wall kitchens are common in newer open-plan homes. Around Vauxhall, many homes date from 2000 onwards, and a run like that works harder with tall cupboards taken to the ceiling. You choose the worktop, sink and appliances.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you are getting.

Common questions about bespoke kitchens

Do you cover homes near Vauxhall station?

Yes, homes across Lambeth and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

Should I send photos?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough measurements. To send them, tell us about the room on our contact form.

How long will the kitchen take to fit?

The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We will talk it through during the design visit.

Will you connect the sink and appliances?

No. We’re carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets. Your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, and we design around where their work goes.

Made-to-measure kitchens or ready-made?

There’s a place for both. In a simple modern kitchen, off-the-shelf can be enough. Where the room is tricky, the house is older or you want a painted kitchen that suits it, bespoke is usually worth considering. In a compact new-build room, standard sizes rarely fit the walls exactly, while fitted furniture is made to the room. It can also be planned around boxed-in pipes and risers.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the design visit, and the quote follows.

Why us?

Vauxhall homes and bespoke kitchens

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Vauxhall were built since 2000 (about 36%) and before 1919 (about 21%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. The Vauxhall Gardens Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Vauxhall. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. Fewer homes around Vauxhall date from before 1919 than across Lambeth: about 21%, against about 40%, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We check what the walls are made of during the design visit, as they vary with the age of the home.

For a flat near Vauxhall station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. For families living near Vauxhall Primary School, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer. Near listed buildings like Woodstock Court, less than half a mile east of the centre of Vauxhall, older homes may keep original joinery that kitchens can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

How fitting day works

With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On the day, floors are covered first and the sections brought in. The pieces are levelled and fixed with fixings that suit the wall. Hand-painted finishes can be completed once the furniture is in.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room and how you cook. It helps to know the worktop, sink and appliances you have in mind.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and go through the layout, storage and finish, including where the sink and appliances will go.
  3. You get a quote in writing for the cabinets, with the materials and finish set out.
  4. The units are made and finished in our workshop.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.

How to prepare

  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Empty the space we will be working in

Flats, conversions and lettings

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it is worth raising during the design visit.

Where other trades come in

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Electrics, sockets and lighting (your electrician)
  • Plastering, tiling or decorating
  • Moving water or waste pipes

If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.
