We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Painting the walls around the kitchen
  • Knocking through or rebuilding walls
  • Any work on the gas supply

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can fill in our short enquiry form and we will give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Lower Clapton

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. We plan each space around the appliances you have chosen, from the oven housing to the dishwasher. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote. If your home has a dresser that suits a period house and a larder for food and small appliances, that is what kitchens are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

An open-plan kitchen in a flat is on show from the sofa, and doors, panels and paint colour are chosen with that in mind. Around Lower Clapton, most households are in purpose-built flats. End panels and a matching tall unit can tie the kitchen to the living space.

A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the kitchen designed for your room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

What it costs

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:

  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The internal fittings
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Parking and unloading on your street

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, and that is part of the price. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

What we need to know

There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:

  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

For a quote for bespoke kitchens in Lower Clapton, fill in our short enquiry form. Let us know the room and the rough idea, plus any rough sizes. We will arrange a design visit, then send a written quote.

Fitting day, step by step

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Sections come into the flat in the order they’re fitted, so the flat doesn’t fill up. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. Fixings are chosen for each wall, solid or plasterboard.

  1. It starts with a short note from you about the room.
  2. We visit to plan the layout and check how the cabinets will get into the room.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. In our workshop we build the kitchen from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in pieces that suit the route in.
  5. The cabinets are fitted in your home with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish; plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Arranging a design visit

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Advice

How it’s made

Plinths and scribe strips

A plinth hides adjustable feet and lets the cabinets sit level. Scribe strips follow the wall.

Larder and dresser units

Larders and dressers can fill an alcove or end a run in a way standard units cannot.

Made-to-measure kitchens in Lower Clapton

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Lower Clapton were built before 1919 (about 37%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 21%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and kitchens can be designed to work around them. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. Where a home in Lower Clapton is on or beside a main road, it is useful to mention that during the design visit. We’ll plan where the van can stop.

For a family home near Rushmore Primary School, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier. Near listed buildings like United Reformed Church, less than half a mile west of the centre of Lower Clapton, older homes may keep original joinery that kitchens can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. Close to Millfields Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design.

Questions we are often asked

Does a conservation area in or near Lower Clapton affect fitted furniture?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Lower Clapton?

It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. A small galley and a large kitchen with a larder and island are very different jobs, so we price it after the design visit. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Do I get to choose the colour?

The choice is yours. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.

Can you fit a kitchen in a room with uneven walls?

Yes, it’s something we deal with all the time. Few walls in a period house are straight, so every cabinet is scribed and levelled.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. We will also ask about access and parking.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Tell us about them during the design visit.

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.
