Bespoke kitchens in Sudbury: what you get

Islands work well in kitchens with room to walk around them. We check there is comfortable space on every side, and in a narrow kitchen an island can make the room harder to use. If the room is narrow, we’ll suggest other layouts. If you are living with making the most of a galley kitchen and tall larder storage, that is what kitchens are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Knocked-through kitchen-diners in older semis sometimes keep a chimney breast, which can frame a dresser or tall cupboards. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Sudbury, the design can make the most of it. A blocked chimney still needs ventilating, and damp is sorted first.

Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

What affects the price in Sudbury

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • How big the furniture is

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Before the design visit

You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. It’s enough to send:

  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing. To book one, tell us about the room on our contact form.

From workshop to your room

Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook. It’s useful to know the worktop, sink and appliances you have in mind.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and talk through the layout, storage and finish.
  3. A written quote follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop.
  5. The kitchen is fitted in your home, and your plumber, electrician and an engineer on the Gas Safe Register do the plumbing, electrics and gas.

Before fitting day

  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager

Rough sizes are fine at the start. We measure everything properly during the design visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, send us a few details through our contact form and let us know about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

Kitchens in Sudbury homes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Sudbury were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 53%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 12%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Near the centre of Sudbury, Historic England’s list includes Sudbury Town Underground Station (Grade II*), under half a mile south-east, and Church of St Andrew (Grade II), under half a mile north-west. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling can require listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If you live on or close to a main road in Sudbury, let us know during the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.

If your children go to Sudbury Primary School or a school nearby, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier. Close to Preston Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. The wider area includes historic houses such as Northolt Manor, about 2.2 miles west. For a period home anywhere nearby, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.

Caring for painted furniture

New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Measure the route into the kitchen
  • Pick the oven, fridge and dishwasher first
  • Share the layout with your other trades
  • Have damp sorted before fitting

Let steam escape when you cook, as steam settling on cabinets over time isn’t good for any finish. Ventilation helps the whole kitchen.

Line up your other trades in good time. The pipes, cables and gas supply need to suit the layout, so it helps if everyone knows the plan.

Flats, leases and landlords

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, finished by spray or by hand.

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

How it’s made

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting suits a kitchen that should look crisp, and it’s done before fitting.

Moisture-resistant MDF

A painted MDF door looks crisp and even, and the moisture-resistant grade suits a kitchen.
