Bespoke kitchens for your home in Rotherhithe
How we make bespoke kitchens for Rotherhithe
We’re carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets, while other trades handle the services. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and electrics by your electrician, and we plan the cabinets around where their work goes. If you’re living with a kitchen planned around your appliances and cabinets for a narrow kitchen, that is what kitchens are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Many homes around Rotherhithe were built since 2000, and across London a lot of homes from those years are flats with compact kitchens. Cabinets made to the exact widths and height of the room add storage a standard kitchen leaves out. Service boxing is designed around rather than left as dead space.
A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It describes the kitchen we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and it is what the workshop builds to.

What happens on fitting day
There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it is useful to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed at the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so everything on the way in is covered before the sections arrive. Door frames and corners get covers too. Once inside, the pieces are joined in place.
- To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the room and the kitchen you have in mind is plenty.
- We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
- You receive a quote in writing for the kitchen cabinets.
- The cabinets are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the cabinets in your home, working around your plumber, your electrician and an engineer on the Gas Safe Register.
How to prepare
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Keep pets in another room while we work
Arranging a design visit
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough sizes. To send them over, get in touch through our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Practical tips
Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. A few pointers help:
- Give the paint time to cure fully
- Let us know about parking at the design visit
- Talk to your other trades in good time
- Check there is room around an island before planning one
Don’t leave water sitting on painted cabinets, particularly around the sink and dishwasher. Moisture-resistant MDF copes well, but standing water is best avoided.
Talk to your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer early. The pipes, cables and gas supply need to suit the layout, and it is easier when everyone works from the same design.
Made-to-measure kitchens in Rotherhithe
Homes built since 2000 make up about 39% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Rotherhithe, with about 34% built between 1973 and 1999, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. Within a mile of the centre of Rotherhithe, 9 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. All of London, Southwark included, is inside the ULEZ. Vans bringing furniture to Rotherhithe fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Access and parking are talked through at the measuring visit.
Living in a block of flats near Canada Water station? Then it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Mary Rotherhithe, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Rotherhithe is in the London Borough of Southwark, about 3 miles south-west of East Dulwich. We design and make bespoke kitchens for homes in Rotherhithe, as part of our work in every London borough. Our Southwark coverage includes Rotherhithe.
In SE16, SE8 and E1W, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. You’ll find streets here such as Bush Road, Gomm Road and Swan Road, and we cover homes on all of them for bespoke kitchens. Rotherhithe is near the A200, so if your home is on a main road, mention it when you get in touch. If you are just outside Rotherhithe, we also cover Surrey Quays (1 mile south), Surrey Canal (1 mile south), South Bermondsey (1 mile south-west), Millwall (1 mile south-east) and North Greenwich (1 mile south-east). We also make bespoke kitchens in nearby places like East Dulwich (3 miles south-west), Herne Hill (4 miles south-west), Elephant and Castle (3 miles west), Bankside (3 miles west), Southwark (2 miles west) and St George's Fields (3 miles west).
Local landmarks in Rotherhithe
Around Rotherhithe, we cover homes near The Ship York pub, St Mellitus College and Bacon's College and the streets around them. There’s a railway station in Rotherhithe itself: Canada Water station. Nearby you will also find Tower of London (1.6 miles north-west) and Surrey Quays Shopping Centre (under half a mile south-west). Green spaces nearby include Lavender Pond.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Ready-made kitchens are widely available and often cheaper and they suit many newer homes. In an older house with uneven walls, they tend to need filler panels and leave gaps. A bespoke kitchen costs more but is made for the room. Rooms in newer homes are often compact, and standard depths can take too much floor, while fitted furniture can be made shallower where space is tight. It still uses the full height.
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the design visit, and the quote follows.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Rotherhithe
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Canada Water station?
Yes, homes across Southwark and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Rotherhithe?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Which worktops and appliances can I have?
The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose, and the cabinets are made to suit them. Your quote sets out what’s included.
How much time does fitting need?
Every kitchen is different. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you can plan your other trades around it.
What does a bespoke kitchen cost?
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Size, layout and finish all affect the price. For a design visit, use our contact form.
What are your kitchens made from?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray painting or hand painting. Your quote sets out the materials and finish.
Flats, leases and landlords
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the measuring visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Rotherhithe?
Uneven walls and floors make standard kitchens hard to fit. Gaps and wavy lines are hard to hide, and a bespoke kitchen is scribed and levelled to avoid that.
People usually get in touch with us about things like these:
- Spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets
- A kitchen for a room that is not square
- A central island in a larger kitchen
- Spaces sized for your oven and fridge
The wider area includes historic houses like Queen's House, about 2.1 miles south-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
- Have they thought about parking near you?
