Bespoke kitchens in Surrey Quays

Moisture-resistant MDF suits kitchens well, because it stays stable and takes paint beautifully. For drawer boxes and shelves, birch plywood is a good choice. Cabinets are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in colours agreed with you. If your home has a layout for a small or awkward room and a kitchen planned around your appliances, that’s what kitchens are for, made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

A newer kitchen may have a wide glazed door or a big window on one wall, so storage has to be planned around the glass. Since many homes around Surrey Quays date from 2000 onwards, tall units and an island or peninsula can make up the difference. Wall cabinets are fixed into the studs or with fixings made for the board.

We write quotes in plain English, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Ready-made kitchens are widely available and often cheaper, and in a square modern room they can work well. Where walls lean and floors slope, they can be hard to fit neatly. Bespoke is a bigger investment, built around the space you have. In a newer flat, big flat-pack units can be hard to get into the lift or through the door, while fitted furniture comes in sections sized for the route. The sections are joined and fixed once inside.

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan for it.

Why us?

  • A design visit, then a quote in writing
  • Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Work across the whole of London
  • Saturday work by arrangement

Take a look at bespoke vs off-the-shelf and what a quote should include.

What bespoke kitchens cannot fix

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work aren’t part of what we do. Please bear these in mind too:

  • New sockets or circuits
  • Connecting a gas hob or cooker
  • Moving water or waste pipes

Not sure whether your space suits bespoke kitchens? You can use our contact form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What goes into it

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Islands where space allows
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Larders and dressers
  • Birch plywood

Could you do it yourself?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.

Kitchens in Surrey Quays homes

In the area around Surrey Quays, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 42%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 26%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List records 11 entries within half a mile of the centre of Surrey Quays. Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Southwark included. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Surrey Quays, as it does anywhere else in London. We plan parking and access with you during the design visit.

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like The Terrace, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent. For an older house near St Katharine with St Bartholomew, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. For a family home near Rotherhithe Primary School, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot give advice on leases.

Questions from Surrey Quays

Do you cover homes near Surrey Quays station?

Yes, homes across Southwark and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Surrey Quays?

Yes, we work across Southwark, Surrey Quays included, and across the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?

We plan the kitchen around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose. Knowing their sizes early helps, and the quote confirms what’s included.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

We plan the route in at the measuring visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

Can you build an island in my kitchen?

Where space allows, yes. An island needs clear floor around it to open doors and move about, and we measure for it during the design visit. In a narrow kitchen, a longer run or a peninsula may suit better.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to let us in. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

What happens on fitting day

Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Parking at newer developments can be restricted, with private bays or loading areas, so it’s useful to let us know at the measuring visit. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You get in touch and describe the kitchen you want.
  2. We visit to measure and discuss the layout and the finish, spray-painted or hand-painted.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. We make the kitchen in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF, which suits kitchens and takes paint well, and birch plywood.
  5. The kitchen is fitted and scribed to the walls, with any hand painting done in the room.
