Where other trades come in

We do not treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Moving water or waste pipes
  • Structural changes to the room
  • Gas work, which is for a Gas Safe registered engineer

If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Materials and parts

  • Islands where space allows
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Larders and dressers
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish

About our bespoke kitchens in St George's Fields

Moisture-resistant MDF suits kitchens well, because it copes with a room that gets steamy. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in colours agreed with you. Most enquiries start with a layout for a small or awkward room and a kitchen planned around your appliances; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

A newer kitchen may have a wide glazed door or a big window on one wall, so storage has to be planned around the glass. With many homes around St George's Fields built since 2000, tall units and an island or peninsula can make up the difference. Wall cabinets are fixed into the studs or with fixings made for the board.

The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in St George's Fields

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in St George's Fields?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Will a bespoke kitchen suit my uneven floor?

Yes. We scribe each cabinet to the wall and set it level on adjustable feet or a plinth, so the worktop you choose can sit level. That is a big part of why bespoke suits period homes.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Do you make the furniture yourselves?

Each piece is made in our workshop for the room it is going into, then brought to your home and fitted. It is built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

What materials do you use for kitchens?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray painting or hand painting. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

How fitting day works

With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Parking at newer developments can be restricted, with private bays or loading areas, so let us know what applies at the measuring visit. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook.
  2. We come to measure up and plan the layout with you.
  3. You get a written quote for the cabinets, with the materials and finish set out, for you to read through.
  4. The units are made and finished in our workshop.
  5. We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician handle the plumbing, gas and electrics. We don’t arrange those trades, so it helps to book them early.

Advice

St George's Fields homes and bespoke kitchens

In the area around St George's Fields, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 43%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 18%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List has 164 entries within half a mile of the centre of St George's Fields. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and kitchens can be designed to work around them. Streets close to central London are often narrow and busy, with loading bays in short supply, so carrying the sections from the van to the door takes planning, especially for larger pieces.

Near listed buildings like Old Vic Theatre, less than half a mile north-west of the centre of St George's Fields, older homes may keep original joinery that kitchens can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. The wider area includes historic houses such as Benjamin Franklin House, about 1.1 miles north-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.

Materials and finishes

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting can be done in your home after fitting. Chips are simple to touch in.

Doors and drawer fronts

The style of the doors sets the tone of the kitchen, whether plain or framed.

What affects the cost of bespoke kitchens

Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:

  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • The overall size of the piece
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Parking near your home

We do not publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, message us from the contact page.

Before the design visit

A few details help us understand the job before we visit. When you contact us, it helps to send:

  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift

You do not need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly during the design visit. To arrange it, tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Ready-made kitchens are widely available and often cheaper and they suit many newer homes. In an older house with uneven walls, they tend to need filler panels and leave gaps. A bespoke kitchen costs more but is made for the room. In a newer flat, big flat-pack units can be hard to get into the lift or through the door, whereas fitted furniture is made in sections that fit. The sections are joined and fixed once inside.

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
