Bespoke kitchens in Elephant and Castle, Southwark
In Elephant and Castle, we design bespoke kitchens around the room you actually have. We design your kitchen at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.
- A layout for a small or tricky room
- A kitchen for a room that is not square
- A central island in a larger kitchen
Bespoke kitchens designed for your room
Flats, blocks and rented homes
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, as it makes good use of an awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
About our bespoke kitchens in Elephant and Castle
A bespoke kitchen is built around the room you have. Each cabinet is made to the real measurements of your walls, floor and ceiling, so there are no filler panels covering awkward gaps. The layout, storage and finish are planned with you, and the kitchen is made in our workshop before it’s fitted. We make kitchens from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are a pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers and a kitchen planned around your appliances.
In newer homes, the washing machine is often in the kitchen, with no utility room, so laundry and cleaning things need a place in the kitchen. Around Elephant and Castle, many homes were built since 2000. Your plumber connects any appliance.
Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

What prompts bespoke kitchens in Elephant and Castle
Flats with tricky kitchen walls are another reason. Bespoke cabinets can make the most of a small or odd-shaped room, so every run is used.
Some of the things we’re asked to solve are these:
- A larder for food and small appliances
- A central island in a larger kitchen
- Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
- Open shelves with cupboards below
If you live in a flat close to Elephant & Castle station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

Made-to-measure kitchens in Elephant and Castle
Homes built since 2000 make up about 39% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Elephant and Castle, with about 20% built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Elephant and Castle include Church of St George the Martyr (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles north-east, and Charlotte Sharman School (Grade II), less than half a mile west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. Vans bringing furniture to Elephant and Castle fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Access and parking are talked through during the design visit.
For families living near London College of Communication, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off. If your home is one of the older houses near Metropolitan Tabernacle, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

Design visits and fitting in SE1, SE17 and SE11 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. If your home is on a street such as Dante Road, Oakey Lane and Ash Avenue, or close by, we can visit to measure up for bespoke kitchens. The A300 and A302 run close to Elephant and Castle; on busy main roads, unloading kitchens takes a little planning. We also make bespoke kitchens in nearby places such as East Dulwich (2 miles south), Herne Hill (3 miles south), Camberwell (2 miles south), Peckham (2 miles south-east), Rotherhithe (3 miles east) and Surrey Quays (2 miles east). Being one of the larger places in Southwark, Elephant and Castle is covered for bespoke kitchens and everything else we make.
Around Elephant and Castle
Our area takes in the homes around St Jude's Church of England Primary School, Lambeth Palace Library and The Rockingham Arms. There is a railway station in Elephant and Castle itself: Elephant & Castle station. Other landmarks nearby include The Walworth Clinic (a few minutes’ walk south-east) and Newport Street Gallery (0.7 miles west). Not far away are Ludgate Hill and St. James's Park Lake.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Questions from Elephant and Castle
My home in Elephant and Castle is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Does a conservation area in or near Elephant and Castle affect fitted furniture?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can you fit a kitchen in a room with uneven walls?
Yes, that is part of the job. Walls in older homes are rarely flat and floors often slope, so every cabinet is scribed and levelled.
Which worktops and appliances can I have?
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and the cabinets are made to suit them. Your quote sets out what’s included.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, but it helps to be around at the end.
What does a bespoke kitchen cost?
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Every kitchen is different, so we price it after the design visit. To get started, drop us a line using the contact form.
How fitting day works
In older rooms, the furniture normally has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. How long fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a newer development, the lift, the concierge and set working hours may all need checking, so it’s useful to sort them out beforehand. Kitchens are made in sections sized for the lift and doors.
- You contact us about a bespoke kitchen.
- At the design visit we plan the kitchen and talk about colours and finish.
- A written quote follows, with the finish agreed.
