- Gas work, which is for a Gas Safe engineer

- Wiring for appliances and lights

How we make bespoke kitchens for Upton
A bespoke kitchen is built around the room you have. Every unit is sized from careful measurements taken during the design visit, so there are no filler panels covering tricky gaps. The layout, storage and finish are planned with you before anything is made in our workshop. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about extra cupboard space and a pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers.
Older homes usually have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of the homes around Upton date from then. That suits tall larder cupboards and wall cabinets taken up to the ceiling. Moisture-resistant MDF suits a kitchen, and the paint finish is agreed in your quote.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Questions we are often asked
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Upton?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
My home in Upton is a period house with walls that aren’t straight. Is that a problem?
Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.
Do pictures help?
Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you fill in our short enquiry form.
What does a bespoke kitchen cost?
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, layout and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, use our contact form.
What are the kitchen cabinets made of?
Our kitchens are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
Do you handle the gas and electrics for the kitchen?
No. We are carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets. Your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, and we plan the cabinets around their work.
Made-to-measure kitchens in Upton
Homes built before 1919 make up about 67% of the housing in the streets around Upton, with about 14% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Upton include Church of St Antony and Monastery (Grade II), less than half a mile north-west, and Red House (Grade II), under half a mile north-west. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. If your street in Upton joins a main road, it is worth telling us during the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.
For a family home near Elmhurst Primary School, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer. Valentines Mansion, about 2.8 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.
Upton is part of the London Borough of Newham, about 1 mile south of Plaistow. Anywhere in Upton, it works the same way: a design visit, a quote in writing, furniture made in our workshop and fitting in your home. Our Newham coverage includes Upton and the places around it.
In E7, E13 and E15, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. Whether you live on a street such as May Road, West Road and Park Road or on one nearby, we can visit to measure up for bespoke kitchens. We also cover the places around Upton: Upton Park (1 mile south-east), Greengate (1 mile south), West Ham (1 mile south-west), Forest Gate (1 mile north) and Plashet (1 mile east). Across the rest of Newham, our area takes in Canning Town (2 miles south), East Village (2 miles west), Wallend (2 miles east), Three Mills (2 miles south-west), Mill Meads (2 miles south-west) and Custom House (2 miles south).

A little further out are West Ham United Football Club Museum (0.7 miles south-east) and Queen Mary's Hospital for the East End (1 mile west).
Why people ask for bespoke kitchens in Upton
A common reason is a room that ready-made units don’t fit. Standard units are made in fixed sizes, leaving gaps at the ends and above. Bespoke cabinets are built to the real sizes instead.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- A larder for food and small appliances
- Open shelves with cupboards below
- Making the most of a galley kitchen
- A kitchen for a room that isn’t square
Living in a block of flats near Forest Gate station? Then it is useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
How we price bespoke kitchens
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- How big the furniture is
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing. To start, message us from the contact page.
Getting in touch
Ahead of the design visit, we will typically ask about:
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- How you want to use the space
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you are ready, get in touch through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a written quote.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
From workshop to your room
You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as we will have talked about at the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day in an older house, the main job is scribing to walls and levelling on floors that slope, so there’s some trimming and adjusting on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. It is useful to let us know about parking during the design visit, as terraced streets are often busy.
