How we make bespoke kitchens for Winchmore Hill
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. We plan each space around the appliances you’ve chosen, so everything fits as it should. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote. We make kitchens from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are extra cupboard space and a kitchen finished in your colours.
Around Winchmore Hill, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, walls tend to be truer than in older houses, though nothing is assumed. Cabinets are scribed where needed and levelled on site. Gas work is for a Gas Safe engineer, and the plumbing and electrics are for your plumber and electrician.
The quote comes in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Before and after fitting day
These points come up often when people plan bespoke kitchens. They’re worth knowing whatever the room:
- List what needs a home in the kitchen
- Measure the route into the kitchen
- Give the paint time to cure fully
- Know your appliance sizes early
Once the kitchen is fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth. After that, a soft cloth and mild soapy water is enough.
Measure the route into the kitchen as well as the room. We make the cabinets in sections that fit through the doors and up the stairs, so let us know about any narrow spots.
FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Winchmore Hill
Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Winchmore Hill?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Winchmore Hill?
Yes. Winchmore Hill is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Enfield and London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details.
Do photos help?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough sizes. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Do you do the plumbing and electrics?
No. We’re carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets. Your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, and we plan the cabinets around their work.
How do you get large furniture into a flat?
We plan the route in at the measuring visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Tell us about it when you get in touch.
What it’s made from
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits drawer boxes and shelves. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.
Spray-painted finish
With a spray finish, the painting is done in the workshop, which keeps work in your home to fitting.

Kitchens in Winchmore Hill: local notes
In the area around Winchmore Hill, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 56%) and before 1919 (about 19%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Part of Winchmore Hill is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your street in Winchmore Hill joins a main road, it is worth telling us at the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Rowan Tree House Woodside House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. For families living near St. Paul's School, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off. If you live near Grovelands Park, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.

Why bespoke in Winchmore Hill?
Ready-made ranges rarely include a larder or dresser that fits a particular alcove. We can build them to fit, painted to match the rest of the kitchen. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, which shows up against standard furniture. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.
There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

What happens on fitting day
You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving the room tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. Elsewhere in the house, the route is typically more generous. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.
- To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the room and the kitchen you have in mind is plenty.
- We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
- You receive a quote in writing for the kitchen cabinets. Plumbing, gas and electrics aren’t part of it: those are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.
- We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.
