Blackwall Fitted Wardrobes
In Blackwall, we design fitted wardrobes around the room you actually have. We design your fitted wardrobe at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.
- Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
- Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
- A room too narrow for hinged doors

How we make fitted wardrobes for Blackwall
Fitted wardrobes are built to the room, from the floor to the ceiling and from wall to wall. There’s no dusty gap on top and no awkward space at the ends. For a bedroom in Blackwall, we start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need. If you’re living with not enough hanging space and several odd pieces where one run of storage would do, that is what fitted wardrobes are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Many homes around Blackwall were built since 2000, and across London a lot of homes from those years are compact flats in newer blocks. Small rooms suit fitted furniture that uses the full height and the tricky corners. Boxed-in pipes and service risers can be built around, so nothing is wasted.
You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes
Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a newer development, the lift, the concierge and set working hours may all need checking, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. The furniture is built in sections that fit the lift and doorways.
- You contact us with a short note about the room and the wardrobes you have in mind, and we arrange a design visit.
- At the design visit, we measure up and plan the doors and the inside with you.
- Your quote follows, with the layout, materials and finish set out.
- We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop, sized to get through your doors and up the stairs.
- We fit them in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.
How to prepare
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
Ask for a quote
Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. When you are ready, fill in our short enquiry form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

What fitted wardrobes can’t fix
We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:
- Structural changes to the room
- Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
- Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can message us from the contact page and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How it works.

The problems fitted wardrobes solve
Couples often want storage that works for two. A fitted wardrobe can be planned with separate sections.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- A room too narrow for hinged doors
- Space under the eaves going to waste
- Storage boxes stacked under the bed
- Standard wardrobes that do not fill the wall
Queen's House, about 1.7 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

What affects the price in Blackwall
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- The number of doors and drawers
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
Rooms that are not square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it, written once we’ve measured up.
Helping us understand the room
You do not need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- How you want to use the space
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it. For a quote, send us a few details through our contact form.
Could you do it yourself?
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
Blackwall homes and fitted wardrobes
Homes built since 2000 make up about 80% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Blackwall, with about 11% built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Within a mile of the centre of Blackwall, 10 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Tower Hamlets included. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Blackwall. We plan parking and access with you at the design visit.
If your home is one of the older houses near All Saints Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. Living in a block of flats near Canary Wharf station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.

Questions from Blackwall
Is parking a problem for fitting in Blackwall?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Canary Wharf station?
Yes, homes across Tower Hamlets and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, but it is useful to be around at the end.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent.
Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
