Fitted wardrobes in London Docklands, Tower Hamlets

In London Docklands, we design fitted wardrobes around the room you actually have. We design your fitted wardrobe at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • Wasted space beside the chimney breast
  • Standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.

About our fitted wardrobes in London Docklands

Rooms under a slope are common in loft conversions and top-floor rooms. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, with long hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it gets lower. Space that is hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. Most enquiries start with not enough hanging space and a room too narrow for hinged doors, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

Many homes around London Docklands have been built since 2000, and newer bedrooms are often compact, with plasterboard walls. Fitted wardrobes are fixed into the studs or held by fixings made for the board. Where a small built-in cupboard came with the home, it can be reworked as part of the design.

Our quotes are written in plain words. You’ll see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

What fitted wardrobes can’t fix

We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
  • Redecorating around the wardrobes

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can drop us a line using the contact form and we will give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.

Fitting day, step by step

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it is going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Fitting day starts by covering floors and setting out the sections. Each piece is levelled and fixed to suit plasterboard or block. Hand-painted finishes can be completed once the furniture is in.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the bedroom, and we arrange a design visit.
  2. We visit to measure the room and discuss the design.
  3. You receive a written quote setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish.
  4. Each section is built in our workshop to the room’s measurements, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit them in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls.

Preparing the room

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way

Advice

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in London Docklands

I live near Canary Wharf station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Tower Hamlets and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room.

Will a conservation area stop me having fitted wardrobes fitted in London Docklands?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Is it OK to put a wardrobe on an outside wall?

Yes, with ventilation planned in. External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we plan airflow behind and within it, which helps avoid condensation.

How is the price worked out?

Size, doors and drawers, what goes inside and the finish all affect it. We send a quote in writing after the design visit.

Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?

The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. That is why we measure the route, not just the room. In a leasehold flat, it’s worth checking the lease first.

Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough sizes. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Bedrooms in London Docklands: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around London Docklands were built since 2000 (about 70%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 14%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. 15 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central London Docklands. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Tower Hamlets included. Vans bringing furniture to London Docklands fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. We plan parking and access with you at the measuring visit.

The wider area includes historic houses such as Queen's House, about 1.8 miles south. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. If you live in a flat close to Canary Wharf station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Matthias, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

Is bespoke worth it?

Large flat-pack wardrobes can be hard to build in a small bedroom. We make fitted wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. Newer homes often have compact rooms where standard furniture leaves tricky gaps, and fitted furniture uses that space. It can also be planned around boxed-in pipes and risers.

In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Let us know about parking during the design visit, so we can plan for it.

Pricing fitted wardrobes in London Docklands

The price for your room depends on:

  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the design visit.

Helping us understand the room

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote. To arrange the visit, get in touch through our contact form.
